2006 300c Dvd Navigation Recommendation

I Just Bought A 2006 300c Without In Dash Navigation. Do I Buy The Chrysler Unit Or Aftermarket. If Aftermarket Which Unit, Price No Issue. In Dash Only.

I just bought the Touring Signature with the nav - I have also used navs on other cars and if you are putting in an aftermarket I would suggest not getting the chrysler version of nav. I find that areas around the Atlanta which have been around for 5 years are in an area which the Chrysler nav is unable to find. That being said spending money on another one would probably be cheaper and you would get a product which you might be more happy with. You would also be able to get it set up through a shop or naviplus.tv and have it also play DVD's and sattelite TV if you are into that sort of thing.

Keep us posted as to what you choose to do.

Just got my 300 C 2 days ago, with the Navigation and the Garmin Quest GPS I use on my Honda VTX 1800 S is much better than the OEM unit. I have the 2-year-old version of the updates on the Quest (Garmin has had one update since I bought it) and the roads are more up to date than the AC version and the options are so much better on the Quest than the Chrysler GPS.

IMHO,
Gary

The disc upgrade is $150 from Alpine ($219 from Dealer Parts, BAH!), but the only difference is that you can input an address while moving up to 10 MPH. There are no other differences and no map or POI additions. Version AD will have more up to date maps and POIs whenever it releases (sometime early 2006).

Bummer.....but at least we know now.
Thanks for the info - do you have a link to check on the newer version release?

bon_gia; keep us posted on what you find out; if you stay on this. I have a car that was built 4/28, and I have no idea which Nav data base disc I have. Probably the AC, there certainly wasn't any upgrade coupon with my disc.

Sorry, but the form was only for early builds and has since expired... as it turns out, Alpine would not accept copies anyway. Here is a new thread about the latest Nav version released:

Disappointing Alpine/Chrysler Nav System

I just took delivery on a 2006 C, and cannot begin to tell you all how disappointed I was with the overall performance and appearance of this hi priced option. Our friend just got a Civic with navigation, and his device is head and shoulders above this one. His is easy to access, has voice recognition, detailed maps and a great L A R G E touch screen. The Alpine's knobby-joystick looks like a strong breeze will break it off. The Alpine device will certainly do what I need it to do, but it really ranks a D- compared to other OEM from much less expensive cars.

We did get the AC software, but our dealership is going to pay for the AD disc when it becomes available. I spoke with Alpine support yesterday, and they said it IS officially out, although they haven't gotten any for shipment yet.

I have now used it a few times and cannot believe how bad the software is on it. On a recent trip it wanted to take me off the freeway to drive down the road adjacent to it for a mile then put me back on the same freeway. 3 out of the last 5 addresses I put in it couldn't find. The location of my house is halfway up a dead-end street. It is a 2 block long street and I am the last house in our block. It puts me down on the corner like I was the first house. I have tried to tell it that my “current location’ is home and it won’t do it. As soon as I enter the address it goes back to the first house location. Just can’t win with the outdated software. I can’t even get it to tell me my current speed. Guess I’m spoiled after using my Garmin Quest.

If any of you get the new AD disc from Alpine or Chrysler, please post here.

I read here that it is due out any day now.
