I have a new 2012 300 srt8 with the harmon kardon sound system and have this same issue. Certain songs with pronounced bass cause massive vibration. The sound quality of the system is really nice, but when that kicks in it definitely lowers the overall experience.

Would be interested to see if you figure out a resolution, I believe I read on some other forum someone added some padding in between the deck lid (or something like that) and it resolved the problem. I've been meaning to ping my dealer and ask them to take a look and if they can't/won't fix it then ensuring taking it to some audio place to add that padding (or whatever) won't void my warranty (got a lifetime warranty).

This confirms it. Now, how to approach Chrysler? As I indicated, my dealer is helping a bit by having me take it to a shop, however, I feel this is a material defect in the system. A TSB should be created by Chrysler to handle this. It really should not be the customer who takes the time out of his/her day to fuss about this. To that point, Whom has the most clout on this forum?

That would be my thought..........calling all moderators!!! I am taking it to the after market place tomorrow. I hope they can do something, but have expressed some reservation since it is a new car and the H/K system is a bit different than what is offered on the aftermarket and may prove difficult to replace--UNLESS they replace the whole system.

I listen to techno / trance / rock / classical / you name it and haven't had an issue yet. Keep us posted on what happens; I suspect it's a loose speaker or mount, and on several cars means person X wasn't using their power screwdriver at the plant properly.

As staff here we have no influence on Chrysler and their decisions regarding TSB issuance. However, we have a Chrysler Care representative on-site who has provided assistance on issues in the past. Hopefully he will see this thread.

In the meantime, it's consumers like you who bring these issues to the attention of dealer service departments. Since these warranty repair and/or adjustment items are reported to Chrysler for reimbursement to the dealer for their time and parts used to resolve an issue, Chrysler takes heed of those repeated items that are trending up in occurence. At some point they get the engineering groups involved for a solution, they test the solution and implement the TSB process.

So while it's a hassle, your time and effort to "fuss about this" has significant value.

How does it feel to be on the cutting edge of a potential new TSB?

Clue to issue

I also just purchased a 2012 300C with the HK audio package and I too hear a rattle with heavy bass.

I found that if I stuff the rim of a baseball cap in the crack where the rear window meets with the back deck on the driver side corner of the window (from inside the cabin, not from inside the trunk), it stops the rattle for that side. So, I am guessing another baseball cap stuffed (jammed) in the same location on the passenger side of the rear deck would fully eliminate the rattle on both sides.

So, this may indicate that maybe (1/2" wide x 3" long x 1/2 thick) strips of dense black foam (maybe even just weather stripping, and black so it matches the window trim so it wont stand out visually) can be stuffed in these locations to fix this issue.

Just an observation.

For those talking about a temporary "quickfix" – baseball cap, phone, etc.

Are you guys doing this above the rattle in the interior space of the car? In other words, is this solution (albeit hopefully temporary) something visible to passengers? Or is there some way to get back into the trunk space and stuff the area to avoid the rattle that is invisible to anyone that doesn't look inside the trunk?.

I am looking to put an order in for a car and was thinking about getting the HK system but the rattle is really disappointing.

Has anyone approached an experienced audio system installer to see if they have thoughts on using any of a number of sound deadening products? I know there are many products out there specifically designed to dampen ready it rattle from car audio.. Maybe that is the best "pre-TSB" solution.
