I am fighting with the stealership regarding my recent claim through insurance. My (Stock) radio was stolen and i'm trying to get it replaced. i believe it is the "REC" model of the nav / 6 disc changer. See pic below. The dealer is trying to tell me that my VIN doesn't show the REC model. Is there another Nav / 6 disc / Sat radio unit other than the REC? He hasn't given me a part number yet of what head unit my VIN shows i should have... Help please.
Thanks JTSRT8, found the one pic (out of 50 or so) that had the REC identified. Now my question is could there be more than one part number of the REC unit or if it is an REC it's an REC?
Just because the VIN doesn't show it installed, doesn't mean the dealer didn't change it before they first sold the car. The VIN (as far as I know) shows what the car left the factory with. Mine didn't call for the Boston sub, but I have it.
I think i have it straitened out w/ the stealerhip. I showed them several pics of the radio (my way of remembering songs / artists on satellite radio) to show that i had the REC model (vs. RAQ / RAK / REF). The bezel for the other options is different than the one i have. The REC bezel has a square hole for the radio, all 3 other options have a bezel that is cut to fit them. I think it's pretty obvious which radio i had, the REF / RAQ / RAK won't fit in the opening i have.
There is only one version of the REC/NAV head unit and that is exactly what you have there.
Actually, that's not quite true. There were a few model #'s used during the run of the REC head unit. While they are all interchangable, there are some slight differences. Sometime around 2006, they changed the joystick to a more robust version. Starting in 2007, they added a video input for backup cameras. This was never used on the LX platform, but using a Lockpick device would enable it for use as a backup camera or accessory video input.

Here's a page showing all the head units available from 2005 to 2010 - Jeep Grand Cherokee WK - Factory audio components. Although it's a Jeep site the part numbers would be the same. You can see part numbers were superceded in most cases which falls inline with JonW's post regarding joysticks.

True. I should have said there's one DD REC unit aka the REC/NAV.
