Question Repair a cracked 8.4 inch Uconnect screen

Long story short, I got mad and regretfully punched my Uconnect screen. I have the 8.4N system. I took my car to the dealership and they told me I had to replace the whole unit for $1,400.

The only thing that broke on the screen is the touch panel. The LCD behind the touch panel works fine, but the touch panel its self is cracked and non responsive. It does not register touch anywhere on the screen.

I assume that this screen works similarly to most touch screens like iPhones and iPods. I believe that I can just order an 8.4 inch touch panel and replace the broken touch panel on the Uconnect system and everything would be good as new.

Has this happened to anyone? Does this sound possible to you? Also, any help and actually removing the screen from the dash would be much appreciated.

You can pick up a used screen for around $250 + shipping. Call this number: 800-462-9292 and reference stock# $00504 for a 2012 model (they're all the same).

The bezel around the screen is held on by clips, just use a trim tool and carefully pry it loose. Take out the screws holding the screen in the dash, unplug it, plug the new one in and put everything back together for the win.

And stop punching your car!

The dealer won't have that screen as a service part but I'd try what tanbam suggests.

tanbam, who is he calling?

That's the number to Schram Auto & Truck in Waterford, MI. HUGE supply of late model Dodge/Chrysler salvage parts.

I think they have a contract with Chrysler to buy all of the vehicles damaged in shipping and old test models from the factory.

Here's a direct link to a different stock number from a 2011 300 from the same place and the same price. Having trouble finding a direct link to the one I mentioned earlier, but they can locate it by the stock# I provided.

Did you punch the screen because you were mad at the Uconnect system? Or some unrelated issue?

If this were the case, I'd have expected the OP to be either you or Cool_V_300C!

I claim there are a whole lot of folks besides Cool_V and myself who are upset about these radios. I personally have a love/hate relationship with it, just like I do with the car as a whole. (My engine issue is the most aggravating.)

BTW - on your advice (and someguys300c's) I'm going to borrow my daughter's iPod to see if I can improve the volume situation, if not audio quality.

LOL.

I was thinking, what on earth could make you mad enough to punch Uconnect out if I haven't done so?

Though for me, Uconnect's handling of media is the only flaw in an otherwise perfect car for me. So I usually go for a drive (ironically with music playing).

I only have 3-4 months before the car is a year old and maybe I will be allowed to tinker with the stereo system (wife gave me a 1 year waiting period even though she hates the beats system).

My plan will be to leave the flawed front end in place, but put in new amps and speakers.
I'm thinking of un-retiring my Phoenix Gold Titanium series amps and going from there.

Mods (2005 C): Stereo only, PAC SNI, Peripheral CHYX, XM Commander, AudioControl four.1, MTX TA5604, MTX TA5601, Polk MMC6500, Polk MMC690, JL CS212R-W0 (2013 C): None..........yet
