Well, I guess Hell must have frozen over, because there's an update for the Uconnects…
As excited as I was to install it and try it out, the radio update link is broken for the '14 cars. All you get is an error "file not found".
The link for the '13 vehicles is live, however. Anyone want to give it a spin and let us know if anything has been fixed?
There are actually two updates. One for the radio, and another for the Garmin modules if you have Nav. The Garmin update will bring your firmware version to 4.30, and will change the model number from CTP13 to CTP14. Other than making it marginally more difficult to update the maps from a Garmin nuvi, I'm not sure what else it does.
I'm getting very tempted to try and see if the '13 radio update will install in my '14.
Edit: All update files are now live. Get them at driveuconnect.com
Unfortunately nothing seems to have changed for me with the exception of the version. At least the items I thought should be fixed such as the whole artwork issue doesn't appear to be touched at all.
I'll have to reflash my phone to kit kat in order to tell if the SMS issue and AVRCP issues have been addressed.
Well... If they'd give me the '12 update, or if I develop the nerve to flash the '13 version on my '12 radio, I could tell you about that because my MotoE is still at 4.4.4.
All hope is not lost yet. I'm flashing my phone back to Kit Kat. Maybe they implemented MAP so we can start getting text messages again. And hopefully we can see track info when bluetooth streaming (I doubt that one but one can hope).
Wow, I haven't seen that yet! I applied this update a month or so ago, and everything stayed in English. Probably some goofy setting somewhere that you need to go and fix. I noticed that when I updated my Nav, it erased everything and I had to start from scratch.
It's possible the update was written by the same clowns who dreamed up the distribution. Something to think about. There's no real way back is there, short of a dealer.
I don't see metadata when streaming, and the messaging button is still grayed out. Incidentally it may be my imagination, but the sound is better, both streaming and through all sources. I haven't listed to much Sirius, so that's next on my list.
I wish we could see a change log for this patch to know what was actually changed.
OK, so the pdf that's available with the update indicates the following
•Uconnect System Performance
•Communication, Navigation and Entertainment Features
I'm not sure I ever had an issue performance-wise, but I have no clue what falls under the 2nd category as the system seems to be doing the same thing it did before.
One thing I noticed was that it read my USB faster. Could that be what was patched?
Maybe there are more album matches in Gracenotes?
The album art bug is still there. The system still does not use embedded album artwork.
I flashed my phone back to Kit Kat to see if there was any change with SMS, and no the system does not appear to have any changes made regarding MAP. In addition there is no metadata shown when streaming via bluetooth.
The tone controls do not suddenly cause a shift in the audio output when adjusting, but they still lag when making adjustments. Very little audible changes happen until you get near the extreme.
I am noticing better sound quality, though I could be imagining it. There seems to be less "hootiness" coming from the dash mounted speakers.
Still not sure what was "improved" in the Garmin update. Could just be a security type patch to enforce us having to purchase the map update?
Chrysler, we really need the following:
1. MAP implementation to make the system compatible with newer smart phones (since 2012 if you can call that newer) so that SMS will work with the car.
2. Album artwork should not be tied to Gracenotes. The system can and should look at the metadata tags associated with the individual MP3 tags. Don't why this wasn't done from the start, but FIX IT.
Ford has already issued patches for the Sync system so that SMS (and email) text to speech is supported.
Time to go out and play some more to see what else I may have missed.
Maybe nothing changed, other than version. Maybe they are testing distribution only? Could they make that more complicated?
I installed radio update and other than having to reapply few settings I see or hear no difference. GPS update I'm not touching until I'm sure maps can be updated.
I agree that I notice no changes whatsoever from either the Uconnect or the Nav updates...perhaps the system is a bit faster when operating, but I have yet to notice anything that's different. I guess I will have to see what happens as I use it more.
I thought I had added this before, but it appears the various artist issue is as worse as ever.
I have my 80's collection which has 50 tracks per volume. It now shows up as 50 albums with 1 track each. at:
So if you have any various artist issue it's likely going to complicate you browsing based on album (so much for user experience). Still have to test voice commands to see how bad it is.
I was also wrong regarding noticing more artwork. Plus the system still hates albums with special characters in the title (I can fix it by modifying the tag, but why bother since the car is the only place that has trouble).
I can confirm that the system does indeed load and categorize music files on USB much faster. Same with the phone data (ie call logs, phonebook, and messages if your phone works with the system).
Need to confirm ipod performance from someone who has one and has applied the patch.
I've got a bad feeling about it. It almost feels like the "security" update we got from Verizon last fall. The update did patch some security flaws, but it also locked the bootloader. I can see the same thing happening hear, minus timely map updates. I see that the next garmin map update for our cars will be available in october.
Wow...so what you're saying is, Uconnect didn't fix ANYTHING that consumers were complaining about in this "update"... WELL THAT'S JUST FANTASTIC! Come on, Nerons! That's what updates and patches are for, for goodness sake! at::smashfrea I'm not even going to bother to apply it to my system. What for?
You don't need to wait for a new map update to test it, the system will allow you to reinstall the same map that's on it. If they've killed map updates that will be killed also.
Well, the '14 update was finally live today, so I tried it out. The only real functional difference that I've found so far, and at least it's a positive one, was that my system sounds a lot better.
I used to have a '13 with the Beats system, and there were some tracks I have, like Caress Me Down by Sublime, that would be almost uncomfortable to listen to at volume because the bass would cause your whole body to feel like it was buzzing. I'm sure it must have had something to do with my rear deck developing the infamous rattle after about nine months! When I traded up to a '14 with the same system, the bass was greatly reduced and that body-buzzing sensation was nearly absent. I assumed it was due to the amp "update" that came out last year.
After applying the update, I immediately noticed that the bone-rattling bass had been restored.
Unfortunately, that's the only change I've noticed. I was really hoping that they'd fixed the iOS 7/iTunes Match lock ups, but sure enough, I still cannot use my iPhone as a music source if iTunes Match is enabled. The radio locks up as soon as the library is indexed, so it's completely unusable. Great job, Chrysler...
The irritating fade in/out is still there, but it might be a little better than before. You'll still miss the last notes at the end of one song and the first notes at the beginning of the next. Unacceptable to not have fixed that...
No messaging function, but I don't think it ever worked with an iPhone, so I can't really blame Chrysler for this one. I think it's more of an Apple restriction.
I didn't see any change at all with my album artwork, and I didn't have any trouble with my various artist compilations. I did notice that the indexing was MUCH faster - though I want to try it again after changing my library to make sure.
I'll update my Garmin next and verify whether or not the map updates still work. If it's broken, I've got some other firmwares that I can reload just in case. I think I'm the best candidate for being the Nav guinea pig.
