I have a2012 300S with the Dr Dre Beats system including the woofer speaker in the trunk. I'm curious to know if I'm the only one not impressed with the sound. This system was hyped all over Chrysler but frankly, my wife's ordinary Ford Edge system has a better sound.
I don't listen to rap or hip hop but the tunes I do listen to have plenty of bass and good fidelity throughout. On this Beats system the bass is missing entirely, the lows are muddy and highs aren't much better. I've messed around with the Equalizer with no satisfaction. I have a very high end home system and I know what good sound is - this aint it.
It's all hype man. Their headphones suck to, Bose products are the same price but the beats out sold them at Christmas because they have a hood rat image and the younger crowd likes it.
changing the 3.5 speakers and sound dampening the doors and rear deck lid will make the system sound better overall. A lot of people are impressed on how it sounds. The bass and mids on my beats system has always been tight and accurate sounding, just needed more highs thats why I upgraded them.
Sounds like something to look at. Is it even possible to upgrade the audio section alone since the entire uConnect system (radio, GPS, etc) seems like one big integrated system?
The other thing I'd suggest before doing any upgrades is to check the system out. You mention bass being missing entirely. To me the system has enough bass, but the mid/treble is lacking. I did an RTA of the system to prove it. There is a nose dive above 12 kHz.
The other thing is it sounds like you've not read the EPIC FAIL thread. The equalizer does practically nothing.
Thanks a lot for all the good advice and ideas. You are so right about the equalizer. Making adjustments for improved sound with this utility is about as effective as adjusting your seat to improve gas mileage.
I'll start with the software upgrade for sure - just hope the dealer know what I'm talking about. Most times I seem more aware of what's out there than he does - typical.
Just remember if your into maps and the latest GPS info, be careful on updating software it mite stop you from updating your maps at will. just my 2cents

I used to have a 2012 300S with Dr Dre Beats and now I have a 2018 300S with 276 watt 6 speaker Alpine system. Both systems actually use the exact same 3.5s and 6x9s. For the Beats, they add a 3rd 3.5 in the dash, 2 3.5s in the rear doors, an 8in in the rear deck, the 10in in the trunk, and they use a 12 channel amp instead of an 8 channel amp. I upgraded to 4 Infinity Kappa 93ix (front doors and rear deck) and 2 Infinity Reference REF3032CFX in the dash. Spent under about $250 on Amazon for them. The dash and rear door speakers only produce highs, the front doors only produce bass, and the rear deck are full range. The new 6x9s are 3-ways (which is pointless in the front doors since they only receive bass signal) but they have a lot stiffer cone so the bass is tighter and they produce lower frequencies than the stock ones. The clarity with new 3.5s is great and they hit higher frequencies than stock stock since they are 2-ways but the highs are very bright (too loud). Since the stock 3.5s are only paper cones with no true tweeter, the stock amp pumps a lot of highs to them. I have the treble for the EQ on my radio all the way down and it still doesn’t help. The only way to fix that problem and to get full range to the front door speakers is add a digital sound processor that sums the channels to give you a level EQ and power them with an aftermarket amp (or buy an aftermarket amp that has high level inputs and a DSP built in). Overall I’m happy with the sound quality for the money I’ve spent so far. I eventually plan on getting an AudioControl LC-6.1200. I’d use 2 channels to power the 6x9s in the rear deck, use 2 channels for a component set up front, and bridge the other 2 channels for a 12 in sub in the trunk (probably in a custom box behind the wheelwell where the Beats sub is).
Smallz, can I ask you a dumb question as a new 2016 300S owner. Do the speakers in the driver and passenger front doors, only produce bass? I was under the impression they should be delivering sound, but when I took it in for service they connected the cpu to their read and determined everything’s working. No matter how I fade the EQ left or far right, never any direct sound from those speakers. I’m going to feel like an idiot if they don’t render sound.
FYI. Speakers will most likely only give you better sound quality. If you want it to be louder, you’ll have to put in an aftermarket amp. Also, if you look back at my post, they pump up the treble in the amp to give you “better sound” because they’re using cheap paper cone 3.5s in the dash with no true tweeter. I replaced mine with 2-way Infinity’s. The sound quality is definitely better but now the highs are almost too much to handle even with the treble all the way down on the radio EQ. I replaced the doors with 3-way Infinity’s even though the stock amp only puts low frequencies to them. The mid-bass in them great. I’m really happy with those. The only thing I can do to solve the treble issue is put in an aftermarket amp and DSP or an amp that has a DSP built in that sums the door and dash channels to give a full range signal for the front.

Yes, I am not impressed with it all, at higher volumes it's muddy. I get good bass from mine but only for certain tunes. I also went to a stereo store and enquired about adding speakers, Amp and subwoofer I was told they would not work on it, they have had issues with other customers saying Chrysler made sure to do funky shit with the system by adding more to it, it coukd actually sound worse (wait what?)
I think from reading these posts that someone has royally messed up the factory setup in my car prior to my purchasing it. I have almost no bass coming from anywhere, the side mount sub is missing. the front dear speakers make almost no sound and it just sounds tinny. I started another thread and will put a detailed list of what I find and replace as I go through everything. would be nice to see a list of what's supposed to be in the car of if I am correct in my thread.
