Jeep Grand Cherokee 2005 GPS/Nav frustrations..
I bought a used 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with factory navigation about 8 months ago. I only have the powertrain warranty... and then my GPS joystick broke!! ARGH!!! I went to the dealer and they told me it would be $700 to fix because the only way to replace it is to put in a new GPS system. I said, "screw you." and left.
Apparently Chrysler isn't recalling this - even though the broken GPS knob seems to be an issue in the majority of these units.. at least from what I've read on the Internet and these forums.
So.. I stumbled across Mr. Incredible's incredible tutorial on how to replace the GPS knob. I ordered the new knob from his link. Is there any way to get the pictures that are missing?
Also, I read about 'motion hacks' to disable the annoying GPS big brother BS when I go faster than 5mph. Is there any tutorial for doing it on a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee GPS (or equivalent for different car with same GPS unit)?
I'd also really love to disable the 'press enter' screen and make it so my GPS unit immediately goes to map display when I turn the car on. Is this possible yet?
And.. I admit I'm a noob when it comes to removing the GPS unit. I can't seem to find any tutorial on how to remove it on my Jeep. I hate 'figuring out' how to remove car components because the wrong pressure applied in the wrong place can break a plastic tab or something. How do I remove my GPS unit?
And.. one last question.. what other hacks are there for my GPS unit?
BTW, I joined these forums because they seem much more organized than any Jeep forums I've seen.
