Chrysler Group Starts Year Off Strong

That’s 3 for 3, a perfect score, batting a thousand. With news that the Chrysler Group sold more vehicles in January than the same month a year earlier, all three “domestics” (we know Chrysler’s not one of our own anymore, but old habits die hard) posted a rise in sales last month. The Chrysler Group as a whole saw sales rise five percent on total volume of 155,465 units, with the Chrysler brand itself going up 16 percent over last year, Jeep up eight percent and Dodge down a mere two percent.

Individual performers that deserve recognition include the Chrysler 300 with sales of 12,746 units, an increase of 26 percent over last year. The surprise player here was the PT Cruiser, which for some reason saw sales jump 45 percent over last year with 11,406 units driving off dealer lots in January.

You’ve heard the chorus before, but Chrysler’s car division led the way with an increase in sales of 20 percent over last year. Sales of its trucks and SUV’s remained flat.
