The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift

Mopar Dodge Charger SRT8 to Debut at ‘The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift’ Premiere

by Darren Jacobs

CENTER LINE, Mich. -- With the upcoming release of the Universal Studios film ‘The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift,’ the sport of drifting is poised to blow up, exposing the fast-rising motorsport to a much wider audience. Mopar and Samuel Hubinette will do their part to show the world what getting sideways is all about, as the “Crazy Swede” and his new Mopar Dodge Charger SRT8 will make an appearance at a June 4 media event in support of the world premiere of the film later that night.

Hubinette, who served as a stunt driver for the film, will take representatives from media outlets for ride-alongs in his NuFormz Racing Mopar Dodge Viper SRT10, on a course set up on the Universal Studios backlot in California. Media formerly unfamiliar with the sport will literally get a front-row seat to discover firsthand the tire-smoking excitement of drifting. Hubinette’s new Mopar Dodge Charger SRT8, which will soon make its debut on the Formula D Drift Series, will also be on display at the event.

The media event will feature the film’s director, Justin Lin, taking part in a roundtable discussion, and attendees will have the chance to preview the new ‘The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift’ ride at the Universal Studios theme park. Later that night, Hubinette will walk the red carpet along with the cast and crew when the film has its world premiere at the Gibson Amphitheatre. The 'Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift', which focuses on an American street racer who is sent to Japan and becomes enmeshed in the underground world of drift racing, will be released nationwide on June 16.

“When Mopar entered the sport of drifting in 2004 with Samuel Hubinette, we knew it was just a matter of time before it garnered a much larger audience,” said BJ Birtwell, Youth/Urban Marketing Manager for DaimlerChrysler. “At Mopar, we do our best to get involved in enthusiast movements early on in their life cycle. It demonstrates that Mopar is a leader, not a follower. With drifting, Mopar saw an exciting new alternative motorsport that showed great potential. With the release of Universal Studio’s The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift, the floodgates are going to open and the sport is going to experience a huge amount of exposure. We’re excited to be able to debut the Mopar Dodge Charger SRT8 at this event. Mopar and Samuel Hubinette were there at the beginning, and as drifting jumps to the next level, we’ll continue to be one of the driving forces in the sport.”

Hubinette, who won the inaugural Formula D Drift championship in 2004 and posted a runner-up finish in 2005, currently leads the 2006 Formula D points race heading into the third event at Solider Field in Chicago, set for June 9-10. The “Crazy Swede” took the win at the first event in April at Long Beach, Calif., and notched a runner-up finish in the May event near Atlanta, Ga.

Looks like I got a movie to go see on June 16th. I like the fast and furious movie franchise and I absolutely am a huge fan of drifting.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. I'm going to the movies. I'm gonna get some popcorn, some candy and a big ole' drink to wash it all down .

All I know is that dude who is the pro drifter with the SRTE did a hell of a job with their Ram SRT10’s! That was the most incredible experience. I never knew it could do those kinds of maneuvers. Sounds like its movie time!

I didn't say anything about plot's or story lines. Just liked seeing the go-fast cars do there thing. Could have cared less if there were actors or not in the scenes. LOL. I also liked the movie Torque. Again no real story, but the sport bikes sure did look good flying fast.

Bruno is sending my fix soon. Maybe you are right. A few Chocodiles down my stomach might do the trick, lol.

So its just the go fast part your paying for. I can understand that.
You know what we need is one of the Star wars guys to edit those movies and take out all the lame parts. You know like they did to Jar Jar in EP1. Makes the Movie a whole lot better.
What was the plot to the second one anyway. I don't remember that one. Just the Big ending were they jumped the Camaro on to the Boat. Awsome.

On the note of this tread the toys for FF3 are out. There is not a Charger in the line. Mustage and a Camaro. 2 different sizes Hotwheels and 1/18th.
Oh and some Japanese cars i don't remember what they were.

Ok Mark You know after sitting here thinking about this I'm going to go see it too. Why the hell not I like popcorn and it's summer best time to sit in a theater is when its hot out.

In Texas in the summer, a movie theatre can be the coolest place to be,lol. Plus all that yummy popcorn. I want to see FF3 just for the drifting this time around. I love drifting. One of my fav up and coming sports.

Why is it that we can't get that popcorn taste at home. You try and try but Nope never the same.
Drifting is fun i use it a lot in Midnightclub3 make the turns faster. Plus I'd never get the chance in real life to do that with Black Cherri.

Linda We Jacked the Thread but at least it's staying close to topic. And Look were all playing nice.

Now I'm off to get a Chocodail from the vault. MMMMmhahhahahahaa.
