STARTECH Powerplay:
Powerful Tuning for all Chrysler and Jeep
Models with 3.0-Liter CRD Common-Rail Turbodiesel V6

Models with 3.0-Liter CRD Common-Rail Turbodiesel V6

What do the Chrysler 300C 3.0 CRD, Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD and the very latest
Jeep Commander 3.0 CRD have in common? All three models are powered by an advanced
3.0-liter CRD common-rail V6 turbodiesel engine. And for all three there is SD6 tuning from
STARTECH (Internet www.startech.de).

The STARTECH SD6 tuning kit consists of a computer-controlled auxiliary control unit.
Thanks to an included model-specific wire harness and detailed installation instructions the
plug-and-play module can be installed in less than 30 minutes by any authorized
Chrysler/Jeep dealer.

The new engine mapping increases maximum power output of the 3.0-liter V6 common-rail
turbodiesel engine from standard 218 hp / 160 kW to 262 hp / 193 kW at 4,000 rpm. Even
more important in everyday driving is the increase in torque from a standard peak of 510 Nm
to 580 Nm, available between a low 1,600 and 2,800 rpm.

These impressive power figures naturally benefit vehicle performance: The Chrysler 300C
3.0 CRD with STARTECH SD6 tuning shortens acceleration time for 0 – 100 km/h from 7.6
(Touring wagon: 7.9) seconds to 7.2 (Touring wagon: 7.5) seconds. Top speed increases
from 230 (Touring wagon: 227) to 235 (Touring wagon: 232) km/h.

The Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD with SD6 performance tuning also exhibits markedly improved
temperament: 8.5 instead of 9.2 seconds for the sprint to 100 km/h and top speed increase
from 200 to 210 km/h clearly reflect the added power.

The new Jeep Commander 3.0 CRD also benefits notably from a STARTECH SD6 module.
The added driving fun also expresses itself in improved performance figures such as a sprint
time from 0 – 100 km/h of just 8.5 instead of normally 9.0 seconds and a new top speed of
200 km/h, up from 191 km/h for the production car.

Yet another benefit of the STARTECH SD6 performance kits is their excellent environmental
compatibility. Thanks to the optimized torque curve fuel consumption remains on the low
level of the production car while exhaust emissions meet the same strict limits as its non-
tuned brethren.

As the perfect complement to performance tuning STARTECH recommends installation of a
STARTECH sport exhaust system for all Chrysler and Jeep CRD models. The fully stainless-
steel exhaust further optimizes power yield. It also gives the engine a throatier exhaust note
without being obtrusive. The characteristic oval-shaped STARTECH tailpipes lend the
various Chrysler and Jeep models a more striking rear appearance.

That's interesting. I hope people will let us know what they find. Too technical for me unfortunately.

Sadly, the days of setting timing by twisting the distributor and setting A/F ratio with jets in the carburetor are almost completely gone for "street" applications. We used to change the flyweights and springs in distributors to adjust advance curves, too. These days you must become computer literate and develop different skill-sets to tune cars the way you want to.

This is the (im)famous Startech SD6 upgrade that has had (especially) the British CRD owners chomping on the bit.

The kit has been available for quite a while now (about 6 months) and I am led to believe that its performance improvements are very impressive - which must be very spectacular as the standard CRD couldn't be described as a slouch.

The good news about this tuning kit compared to others, is that it has been developed by Startech, a division of Brabus, a division of DC and so when it is approved by individual countries the 3 year DC warranty will stay intact. I understand that it is already approved in europe and I'm just waiting for DC UK to give it the nod.

To put the upgrade into context, once fitted a CRD will have more torque/sheer grunt than a Hemi, and all from as low down as 1600 rpm - it should be good fun if it gets approved for us Brits in the UK.

This upgrade which is available for £249.99 ($460) will boost your torque/sheer grunt upto 660 nm - and totally invalidate your warranty !!

All the fun of owning a diesel burner.

MTC

p.s. I contacted my insurer who would NOT be looking for a premium increas if I had Arnie chipped - as long as I kept underneath the 340 bhp of a HEMI, the torque figures never counted for them.
