How popular will the Chrysler 300C LWB (Long Wheel Base) Be?

Rick Kranz of Automotive News recently penned a piece asking just how popular will the upcoming Chrysler 300C LWB (Long Wheelbase) be, and is Chrysler underestimating its appeal to the public. DCX is saying it expects to sell around 70 percent of its LWB models to the livery business, which includes limo and high-end taxi services. But Myles Kovacs, president of Dub magazine, thinks the company is underestimating the car's appeal to the public, which includes the superstar athletes and entertainers that grace his mag's covers.

And it's not just the 300C's image, but also it's practical increase in interior volume, that will endear it to the big and tall among us. Its wheelbase is stretched by a full six inches, and we can tell you after sitting in one at the New York Auto Show that the difference in interior volume is profound. Back seat passengers sit so far back that an intercom system should be standard equipment so they can communicate with those up front.

And don't forget about all the old money out there that Lincoln has been attracting with its Town Car Executive L. While prices of the 300C LWB have yet to be announced, Chrysler has assured us that it will be substantially under the Town Car's price of around $51,345.

I really like it. I am a tall person and usually my driver seat is all the way back. If someone were to sit behind me in my 300 now. There feet and knees would not be very comfortable. I also like how it will be longer and more closely resemble a full-size sedan, not the more mid-size sedan our 300's are now. I might even opt. for a sunroof in the LWB. I didn't in my 3CSRT.

My only problem with the LWB 300 is. It will only be offered in 1 power plant. The 5.7L MDS Hemi. It should also be offered with an optional 6.1L Hemi, but not have to be called a LWB SRT. Just have an option in the 2 Hemi's for the LWB 300 power plant.

The LWB will be heavier than our 300 counterparts. Why tax the extra weight with an MDS powered 340 hp vs. a full time V8 425 hp. Just my .02

Plus Accubuilt is doing the LWB conversion for DCX and they (DCX) could not have picked a better company to do this type of conversion work. Accubuilt does limos, trucks, etc. http://www.accubuilt.com/

I know the picture is small, but it shows the fold down desk for the rear of the passenger seat only. It is supposed to have controls built in that will allow the person in the back seat to move the desk, hence the front passenger seat, towards themselves. Now I know why there is not a desk behind the drivers seat, lol. Imagine you are driving and your friend behind you starts pulling the desk towards him. As you are slowly being pulled away from the steering wheel, lol.

Plenty of torque in the 5.7 hemi to get this beast moving. This is intended to be more of an "executive express," not a supercar, something to steal some more market share away from Ford until the Imperial hits the street.

Since I have never ridden in the back of my C it all seems rather pointless. My S430 has about the same leg room if not more that thi LWB C albeit on a mere 122" WB, the S gives up quite a bit of trunk room for rear seat room with very long rear doors. I am amazed at how much more room is in the S over the C with only a 2" longer WB, it makes sense when you look at the huge trunk in the C however.

Is it just me but does that pic of the LWB C show a very cheap looking interior? All the plastic and rubbery looking leather, the carpet, and overall "look" does nothing for me. The Impala looks better inside. They better not rest on thier laurels too long, the C was a good first effort but it needs work, Toyota seems to be very good at addressing weaknesses with subsequent upgrades in thier lineup.

Since I’ve threatened to take out the front seat and sit in the back to run the car I think it would be great. Tall people would enjoy the extra space I’m sure. Now if they can only make a wider seat for those large arses out there.
