Fiat to Kill-Off Nine Chrysler Group Vehicles Including Sebring, Grand Caravan
A week ahead of a planned Fiat/Chrysler press conference in which Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of both automakers, was to outline the future of Chrysler, much of the information has been revealed in an in-depth report in the Wall Street Journal. But before we get to the new products that the Italian-owned automaker is planning to bring into the North American marketplace, it's time to learn the fate of the vehicles being axed. And judging from the list, it appears as though Fiat is intent on moving its products in and Chrysler's products out.
The vehicles to be cut include the Chrysler PT Cruiser and Sebring. On the Dodge side, four models will be eliminated, including the Caliber, Nitro, Avenger and Grand Caravan. Three Jeeps will also meet their maker: the Commander, Compass and Patriot.
In place of these vehicles Fiat is ready to announce the introduction of the 500 in 2011, along with three Alfa Romeo vehicles: the MiTo (shown above), Milano (which will replace the 147) and another yet unnamed mid-sized sedan.
The rest of the plan will see the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger redesigned in 2011, with the Grand Cherokee due out soon. And with only two Chrysler products left, the rumored decision to axe that brand's name may just happen.
The Wall Street Journal made no mention of past reports that the Fiat Panda would see its way to the U.S. as a Jeep. There is also no word on if the Fiat 500 will be offered in just it's standard hatchback form, or if a convertible and sporty Abarth version will also join the product lineup.
let me tell you something about Alfa's,I'm Italian(living in the UK) and I wouldnt have one if it was the only car left in the world,I own a repair shop(mechanical)and the engine burns so much oil that the handbook states to check the oil level every time you fill up with petrol,we have replaced so many Alfa engines in the past(and maybe in the future, lol)the electrics are sh1t and the gearboxes are...well...enough said and people say to me in the UK how can you afford to run a 5.7 yank tank, lol, its way cheaper than an Alfa,I'm still on my 1st engine and gearbox is my answer,LMFAO................Alfa and Fiat, forget it.Did you know that F.I.A.T stands for Fix It Again Tomorrow.nuff sed,lol

I was mentioning in another thread that I expected a great mix-up with the whole Chrysler brand, dropping all but the van and 300, but did not expect the Grand Caravan to be on its way out, nor did I expect such a change with the Jeep line-up. I do however firmly believe that Chrysler will now be a dedicated luxury brand, so I expect to see fancier SUVs and an upgrade to the T&C in that line-up, along with a small or mid-size sport/luxury sedan (smaller 300, basically).
It will be interesting to see what happens.

I think Fiat is definitely killing off the right models...the crappy ones that don't sell very well. But it's yet to be seen how well their products will sell in the US. I think they're banking on the fact that Americans have crappy memory and won't remember how crappy their cars were the last time they tried to sell them here. I know I won't be spending my hard earned dollars on any kind of Fiat.

Hey America, how's that hope and change working out for you?
The Grand Caravan is a shocker because it has always been a strong seller. My wife is just about to take delivery of a rather basic 2010 Grand Caravan. I guess they could take the base Town & Country down scale to cover the same demographic as the Grand Caravan and have the simplicity of one model. If they don't produce a base Town & Country at the same price point as the Grand Caravan, they will lose buyers in droves to the Koreans. Hell, I think they should have dumped the Town & Country and kept the Grand Caravan. Vans are never going to be a prestige item, so why pretend.

I thought Fiat would be good for chrysler but I'm starting to wonder.....
It seems that all they want to do is kill off loads of models and replace them with italian ones.
Also rumoured that it might be that Fiat will pull Chrysler and Dodge out of the UK and the rest of the world all together! (as I live in the UK - Im not too happy!) leaving only Jeep. Chrysler and Dodge will become N America only. They willl then sell Lancias or somthing instead! I hope this isnt true at all! - I was really hoping to get one of the new 2011 300c's when they are released.
At first, I thought that it would be a good thing as Chrysler will be able to borrow their technology and put it into their cars/trucks but a lot of speculation seems to believe that the future for the most part will be little more than Chrysler badges stuck onto itallian cars .....
I will be well P****D off if this turns out to be true.
