Steering Wheel Leather Cleaning

I had my steering wheel replaced (don't ask why they had to replace the entire steering wheel) because the audio controls had cracks in them. On the replacement steering wheel, I noticed that the leather does not feel smooth like on the original steering wheel. It feels coarse and gritty, like some kind of finish was not applied to it.

Anyone know of a product I can use to make the steering wheel leather permanently feel smooth, I tried my Meguiars cleaner and conditioner, but that did not work.

Thanks in advance!

First.. you have a pm.second if you are using a product that has both a cleaner and conditioner, you are not getting much conditioner. Most one steps have little conditioner in it. its mostly abrasives. Once you get a conditioner, that should do the job.....p.s. that is why I don't like one steps.........

I sell and recommend Lexol products. A separate cleaner and conditioner is always best. You can clean, and you can condition, but you can't do both at the same time as well as each separately. (same with "cleaner/waxes).

The rough leather feel you are getting is just a different batch of leather on the wheel. I probably won't get much better with lots of conditioner, but it will help a little. Different cows have different skins. You got unlucky in getting a skin that wasn't very good.

I would complain and ask for another wheel while it is still new. Rough leather and stiff leather really never get any better.

American leather is sealed, the dye pretty much totally seals the leather surface, and even Lexol won't do much to make it softer because all the pores are sealed. Most europeon leather is much softer and leather conditioners work better on them, but then they stain and get dirty a lot easier. You can have easy to clean/durable, or you can have glove soft, but not both.

Always use the cleaner before using the conditioner on leather. Otherwise, you are just working the dirt in the leather and stitching if you don't clean.

Good luck.
