They dont come off when I wash also, but they do when I use Bug/Tar remover on the spots. Like you I also will try the clay when the weather improves. I'll probably spend a whole day trying to get every spot off and then wax it. There are some pretty good cleaning products and info on that autogeeks.net webpage.

rail dust can appear out of nowhere. sometimes the color blends in with the car initially and you don;t see it as you described. but on light colored cars, it will appear as orange type spots. claying will remove it. for tips on claying, go ot my web site www.perfectautofinish.com Gary

One last question Gary.
Why is it that I only see this rail dust on my trunk and Driver side door sill. I know that the trunk and door sils are aluminum. Does aluminum rust quicker or something.

When they float in the air, they fall at ramdom on the vehicle. It might appear heavier on another car somewhere else. Gary
