Detailing Clay is great!!!!

Today I used clay for the first time cleaning my car. I drove it all this winter and had salt (that turned into orange dots), dirt, and scuff marks in the paint that would not come out w/ washing. The clay easily cleaned ALL this stuff off and left it smooth as a baby's butt unlike the gritty feeling it had before. Followed it up w/ wax and it looks brand new. If you are not familiar w/ this cleaning method like I was then I recommend it 100%...especially if you have the cool vanilla color, which shows all dirt spots.

Hi there 'Elpino'...

Can you please enlighten this Brit as to exactly what is this mysterious clay? Does it have a brand name and is it obtainable within the UK. Any website reference etc?

Regards

Geordie,

Detail clay should be available at any reputable vendor in the UK.

Poorboy's.AutoGeek, Premium Auto Care, Proper Auto Care,Zaino, and Meguiar's are just a few of the vendors that you can purchase from here in the states.

Make sure that you purchase a quality detail spray or clay lube to use when working the clay. Good Micro fiber towels would also be a plus

I would go to Detail City, AutoGeek, Autopia, Detailers Club or Meguiar's On Line to get valuable information on the correct process. any of these sites is available free of charge. Most of them have huge archives of past processes and a wealth of information on process and products.

The feel of the paint will be most dramatic after the application is complete.

The look of your car is only limited by the preparation of the vehicles paint. Proper care will give added beauty and shine to your 300C.

If you have any questions on paint care how to's I would be most happy to get you going in the right direction. It is just a matter of reading and applying the practices. Once started you will not believe the difference in the look of your car. IMO

Hi cwcad...

Thanks for the info and offer of assistance...greatly appreciated.

I will visit my local motor accessory outlets and await the perplexed expression when I start talking 'clay'!

I clayed my car for the first time about 3 weeks ago and I couldn't believe the difference. Very smooth like elpino said.

The only thing is now that it is so clean, smooth, and shiny, I can see every scratch, orange peel, and imperfection in the paint. Guess I have to take it in and get it buffed out and then do the claying over again.

I am really going to step in it here. If you are going to have your paint buffed out by a professional that you trust, I would confer with him to make sure that claying would be recommended post buffing.

I believe that the correct way to create a perfect surface for you car's paintwould be to wash, clay, polish(buff or paint correction phase) and then seal with you favorite LSP( last step product).

Although I have never scratched my wife's 300 Touring I know that I have made minor marks or marring from the use of a clay bar. Which were taken care of in the polishing phase of the detail either using a PC or a rotary bufferand appropriate pads.
Clay will take care of minute contaminants. It will also take some of the existing wax that may exist if you use the clay bar post polishing or LSP phase.

Yea claying may make minor marks just make sure if the piece of clay you have has alot of dirt in it then use a new piece of clay. My car looks as clean as the day I got it.

I purchased a kit off of http://www.autogeek.net/ A wealth of detailing information, but you may have trouble choosing from the wide selection. I bought a kit w/ clay, clay lubricant, wax, microfiber towels etc...
