Bugs!!

After finishing my cross country road trip (Oregon to Florida), my car is covered with bugs. I have been to the car wash 2 times so far, and have washed my car by hand once. I have tried everything to get the bugs off my front bumper. Is there anything i should use that takes them off? I got all the bugs off that stand up off the paint, but it seems like some of them haev splattered INTO the paint.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Matt

Use bug and tar remover wax. I am going to Montreal next weekend, 6 hour drive. My friend thought of a cool idea, going to get window mesh and cover front grille. He is going to cut it to perfection and using tie wraps to hold it in place. I don't want any bugs going to the radiator. I am also going to wax the front end and lights so the bugs will slide right off!! LOL!!!!!

We had lots of bugs on our 7k miles trek west, but I took care of the worst of them daily (if needed) by a visit to the coin-op power spray booth ($1, 2.3-3 min power rinse foxusing on the front bumper). If you leave them on they could etch the clearcoat slightly and be a rear bear to get off. Otherwise, some Goo Gone (AutoZone) may do the trick as well.

You can always do what fatchance did and apply the blue painters tape on the front of your car. It seemed to work for him for all the nastiness on the road. It comes off really easily too, but not much of a fashion statement though.

I would go to one of those automatic type of car wash places where you can use the power wash hose to get most of them off. Then run over it with the Tar and Bug remover..... I think i might start cleaning my car at one of those places where i can use a high powered hose and wash it by hand then detail it in there because it will have good shade...

This is why I purchased the Clear Bra. South Florida bugs will literally eat the paint right off your car…. especially during love bug season, which happens to be right now. I wash my vehicle every day during this time. At least with the Clear Bra it keeps the paint from being permanently discolored by their guts.

Chances are that if you've wiped as much as you can and you can still see a sillouhette or mark from the bug, it's etched into the clear coat.

Not much you can do about it except polish or even wet sand it out, but I'm no professional so I won't recommend it.

(I have etched bug marks, don't feel out of place.)

Just use bug-off tar and bug remover to get them and do it often. I do it every wash.

1.) Wash the front of the car, hood, roof, mirrors etc...

2.) spray bug-off liberally and let sit (NOT in the sun btw)

3.) Gently massage, in a back and forth motion, bug marks with microfiber towel until removed, and spray more bug-off if it's dry (keep lubricated with bug-off)

4.) Re-wash front end, roof, hood, and mirrors.

Done.

I remembered reading something about using WD-40, but I don't remember if it was for front glass or front grille, or both.

Anyone know anything about this potential remedy?

From what I've read so far about detailing trying the clay bar first and a cleaner/polish second if you still need it would be the way to go.

Yes, what he said...

...I have heard people spraying a light coat of WD40 before they go on a road trip to prevent the bugs from getting stuck on the paint, but I've never heard anyone cleaning with it.

I wouldn't put that stuff on my paint anyway. There's better things like bug-off and clay bar that do the job safely.
