Swirl Marks/ Scratches Self Healing

Anybody else heard about Nissan's Scratch Guard Coat that may be come available? (google "elastic resin" and nissan)

Apparently at new car manufacture, an elastic resin is applied during painting that allows heat from the sun (1 day to 1 week) to 'heal over' swirl marks and scratches and return the surface to its original state.

I was wondering if any American car paint manufacturers are looking into this.

Yeh, from memory Toyota did the same thing about a year ago it was on the "Today" show in Australia, don't be fooled though from what i saw the scratches were VERY minor and could take up to 6months to 'heal' the biggest think to put me off was yet to come, replacement coating every 5 years due to the fact that in extremem heat it could peal, bubble and get less efffective. Mind you this was a Toyota product and by now i would assume that this technology has been rivalled! So go Nissan and lets hope this products does not suffer from the same pitfalls as the Toyota one.

if they are using this, I would assume that it is on the 07 altima. my friend bought one on christmas and it has swirls bad!!! lol. and its not from how he washed his car. I told him take it back. they spent about 7 hours so called "detailing" it. and it looked ok. he took it back to them to wash once it was dirty because they asked him too. and what do you know, all swirled up again lol. I've had my 300 since jan 05 and my paint has never looked as bad as his did at 1 month old.
