How do I dull paint?

I know this sounds like a stupid question in this forum, but I just painted my fog light bezels to match the rest of the car and the paint is brighter/shinier than the rest of the front bumper. I used chrysler touch up paint in a spray can from automotive touchup.com or something like that ( I think ). It has the factory paint code, etc. but it is shinier and more metalic than the rest of the front end. I don't think you can tell from more than a couple feet away, but I can tell. Any suggestions?

Car is an '06 with a April '06 build date, didn't think the paint would fade that quickly.

I don`t know about the paint that you used. Now the spray can of paint you get from the dealer is Lacquer and not the same as on the car. But a close match.

You could probably just use some really high grit wetsanding paper to take down the shine

since they're the fog light surrounds, they've got lots of contours. sandpaper doesn't work well for really curvy parts.

i reccomend steel wool. super super fine steel wool. the more zeros, the better. 5 owe (00000) or finer would definately do the trick. it takes stubborn water marks off of sunroof glass too.

whatever you do, start with just a little bit, do it lightly. its easier to take more off than it is to put more of the finish back on.

If I was you, I would apply a few coats of some good wax to the front
bumper, but NOT to your newly painted foglight bezels.

Apply the wax, and buff it off like 3 or 4 times. This will build up the wax
and will bring up the shine on the bumper.

If you try to "dull" your newly painted parts, you will ruin the paint on them,
and they will look like hell.

Once you have had car on the road awhile, and get some milage on with
the new painted parts, and they get dirty, and have bugs all over them,
they will match better each time you wash the car.

One reason your parts don't "match" is that your newly painted parts are
just that, new and fresh. It will take some time, but once they start to
get "worn", they will match the rest of the car.
