Calling all Canadians

When I went to the auto show I saw a car that was so different that it caught my interest. It is only availvable in Canada and overseas. It's call the Smart car. Its made by a division of Mercedes Benz, and it gets over 5o miles to the gallon. I wondered if you could go up to Canada to buy one and bring it back to the U.S? Not sure if that is legal or not, but for the price ($12,000 U.S) it would be fun to tool around town in one. If anyone knows please post. Thanks Gary

I thought they were in the US? I have seen several in my neck of the woods and they are running around 19K here. The problem is, is there is a backlog , and I think it's worse than the wait for our cars. I'm not sure I'd like to drive one in the city because of the safety factor maybe in a country setting, but the gas mileage is good. I don't think you could get a set of golf clubs in it.

I forgot to add that I understand you could export/import this car but you would not have a warranty unless you live close to the border and you could slip across for service and such.

I have a Mercedes dealer up the street from me so the smart cars are always running around my area. I don't know what the saftey rating is for the smart car, but it is so tiny I would be scared some kid would run out and kick it over while I was stopped at a red light. I was going to take one out for a test drive, but there was a long line up of shriners impatiently waiting for all the circus clowns to empty out of the car.

I just watched the Canadian Motoring 2005 show. They gave the Chrysler 300C the overall car of the year award (hohum).

What was interesting though, was their online poll that overwhelming put the MB Smart Car as the COTY! Go figure.

Does that mean that Canada has become a nation of circus clowns???

Maybe we should ask Mr. Dithers!!!!! (Cdn joke folks) I also see that at the Toronto car show they put the Ford Mustang as the "Car of the Year". What gives with that, I thought the 300C was it?
