Buffer on black paint???

I bought a cheap buffer (Ryobi $40) awhile back and used it on my mustang a few times. It left swirl marks like it wasn't completely buffed out even though it was. Once i washed it the swirl marks would go away. Im kind of nervous to use it on my brand new 300. Does anyone use buffers with their black cars? Maybe i should get a better buffer or use a different wax. I was using Meguiers Gold Class and Meguiers NXT.

That style of buffer generally lacks enough power to do any damage to your car - or do anything good for it. At best, the cheap buffers just speed up the wax on/wax off process. In short - you should be able to use it on your car with no problems.

From a detailer's standpoint:

Buy yourself a Porter Cable Buffer, and nice sealant, and a wax. So long as you don't have any swirl marks right now, you can seal and wax and be good for 6 months, so long as you use the proper two-bucket washing method. I suggest Klasse All-In-One Sealant, and maybe P21S wax, or some Souveran wax. It's your choice. I'm a black 300C owner as well. Take a look at my previous post, I posted some pics of my detail job on my 300C.

Good luck!

These products you named -> where can i buy them. And what do you mean by two bucket washing method. I just wash the car and then use meguiars quick detail spray to get rid of water spots. When i tried waxing it by hand it took me forever to get the wax completely off for some reason (Meguairs NXT)

2 buckets: first bucket has clean water with car wash in it. 2nd bucket starts clean, and is used for rinsing dirt off wash rag. Ideally, one uses a "grit guard" which is a plastic screen designed to sit about 3 inches above the bottom of bucket #2. That way, the dirt falls to the bottom and can't get picked back up by the wash rag as easily.

BEFORE YOU TAKE ANYTHING TO YOUR FINISH, CLAY IT FIRST. Swirls come from stuck on particles that did not come off with washing but do come off with waxing (petroleum distillates) and grind swirls into the finish. This is why the wax applicator turns grey/black, that is dirt you did not remove. Clay removes those fine particles, tar, bugs, etc. with no damage to the finish. there are several informative clay threads on the forum. Once the finish is dirt free, it's fielder's choice on what you use to buff. I do it all by hand, then again my car is Cool Vanilla and much more forgiving than black.

The products you use are all based on preference. Some like Zaino and others Menzerna. I use the Menzerna Blackfire. You cannot really go wrong with a well named polish/sealant. You can buy most of the products online.

Nice to see some of the education I passed on is being talked about here, as far as buffers, CHEAP is NOT better, in fact it can be harmful. Even though the DA type of machine is safe, when you are talking about black, even the smallest flaw can make for a scratch or swirl. claying is important, so is method of drying, cotton and terri towels are BAD, stick with waffle weave drying towels, and electric leaf blower, if you switch to Ultimate Paint cleaner from Perfect Auto Finish you will see a huge improvement on your finish, for more info on this, check out the dvd I made.
