Bonets

I just bought a porter cable buffer. Where is a good place to buy bonets for it? What type of bonet? I read some stuff in autopia, but their bonets are pretty expensive. Thanks.

This is worth what it costs but I am going to say it any way... I have a pc and use it regularly to apply all kinds of products. But... I think that my money is better spent on buying high quality Microfiber towels and buff by hand. The reason being that the bonnets that i have clog almost immediately on a PC. I just never have had any good luck using a bonnet either applying or buffing on the car.

I have been using vendors that sponsor a site called Detail City. Have ordered products from all of them. Each provides good service and have stood behind everything that they sell.

I recently purchased a detail spray kit from Adam's Polishes. It was a kit including some high quality Microfiber towels. IMHO the towels that i recieved from Adam's Polishes are of the finest quality. I have over a hundred different types of MF towels on my shelf. 24 of them are from Adam's and the rest are gathering dust.

I have also heard good things about the MF towels that Ranney sells at Pakshak.

No matter who you purchase your MF towels from you have to remember that they are not cheap. But they will provide terrific results for any and all of your detailing needs.

As far as purchasing pads for the pc you can check out Propel pads, Edge pads, or Lake country pads. All are high quality and will do the job for you. I started with Lake Country pads. I use the 7.5 in. variable contact pads. They are high in quality, easy to use, and will produce terrific results when used with proper preparation techniques. You can go to any sponsors site on Detail City and order pads individually or get their starter pads kit.

Hope this helps! I know that you asked about bonnets.

Doc G, sent you a pm but I will post here as well. try www.properautocare.com for your bonnets. as far as micro fiber goes, remember that whenever a great product is introduced into the market, someone somewhere will make it cheaper, the end result the consumer looses. I'm the quiet giant in the MF business. I'm also the largest distributor in the Midwest. reason is Quality. Cheap MF comes from China and will fall apart after a few dozen washes. Mine come from Korea, where the best quality is coming from. I have tested them for 500 washes and are still going strong. You also have to look at the blend of Fiber which most peope don't even know about. I have gone through endless suppliers in the catagory and I have the best source for MF after years of looking. I now sell the big guys and the small users so everyone car take advantage of this product. Gary

You are sooo right about MF, Gary. I am in the cleaning business. Microfibre cloths are one of the biggest breakthroughs in cleaning in the last 2 decades.

I have collected products from all over: Germany; Sweden; Taiwan (actually went to the factory there); China and Korea.

The ones I use are made in Korea. Originally, MF wre very expensive and often sold through MLM schemes. Now, they are commonplace, but most are not well made. The manufacturing process is technically complex.

Gary, I plan to order some from you when I come back from holidays.

You guys got me off the all cotton bath towels onto MF, I just spent the last 4 hours washing and claying (unbelievable grime all over the car, I usually get 2-3 uses from one claybar, this one is trashed with tar and grime) and paint sealing I got from perfectautofinish a forum member's company. The car is stunning, I don't want to drive it. It was a real PITA cleaning it but well worth it and the MF drying towel I used for the first time was supurb.

I see you guys obviously love MF towels.

Hanging around the Vette forums they have a different view and think Supima cotton towels are the way to go over MF. Not by much, but there's some debate.

I use an MF mit to wash the car and these to dry it:

http://www.geocities.com/kevinoverall1/orderform2.htm No. CDT4 or CDT2

You guys are familiar with Zaino products I hope. They take the nylon edges off and sew new ones on using the same Supima cotton. They sell MF towels too, but recommend Supima natural cotton.

my $.02

If you are talking the final ultimate buffing to a mirror finish, I am still sticking to the Cotton towels.

MF for everything else. I always carry one in the car, as well.
