best way to remove dust?

What is the best way to remove light coats of dust from my car (besides washing it of course )? Sometimes I dont need to wash it I just need to get the dust off and it is clean underneath. Any suggestions?

"Best way" - wash the car. Period. Anything else, you WILL mar the surface. Perhaps only so-called "micromarring". But even micromarring adds up over time - most ESPECIALLY on dark colors, with black being the absolute worst...

Next best way - use Quick Detailer spray and a GOOD quality microfiber terry towel. The Meguires Quick Detailer is acceptable OTC detailer spray.

Next best - the Calif Car Duster or its equivelent.

Sounds good to me, except that I use the same stuff which I also use on my Harley, and which many of the other bike shops also use. This spray actually contains a 'demagnetizing' compound which helps repel dust. I'll try and remember to bring some with me to our next SoCal gathering in June.

Better than the California Duster is this Wool duster from Fuller Brush. I have used one for years. Note though, that ANY dry dusting will put in some fine marks, in the wax if not the paint.

A wash is the best way, and I would only use a quick detailer if the dust is VERY light and fresh, same day as the wash.

In an emergency, quick detailer alone will work, but it WILL scratch your paint and you will have to deal with it later.

Pixelpusher, do you wipe the whole car with the detailer spray every morning or just certain areas?

Their has been some debate over the the use of the Ca Duster. I have tested it and don't see any harm in using it. Always remember to use LIGHT pressure, you are removing dust not grime. If you use the duster first then follow up with a high quality micro fiber (not a cheap one, see thread on micro fiber) and use spray and shine with it, you will be all set.

Duster

You need to read the instructions first, This I didn't know until I read them, Wrap the duster in newspaper for a couple of days( put in warm area) or until the no more wax is soaked into the paper, this works great especially if the duster or car is really warm.
