Heeelp! I got my black 300C last week Saturday (June 11th) and washed it for the first time this past Friday (June 17th). After the wash, I noticed that I had rust/bumps building on all of the silver trim (i think the trim is made of aluminum). I didn't notice it on the paint, but maybe that's because it's harder to see on black. I don't know if this is rail dust or not. Could someone please help with my situation? Is this rust or rail dust? Can I get it off with clay?

On a new car it is extremely unlikely it is rust, 99% sure it is rail dust. Just try claying the area and see if it comes off. Pretty simply solution. Chances are that is all the car needs. Gary

The links below should give you everything you want to know about rail dust and paint contamination along with the "Proper" way to correct the problem without degrading the paint finish with methods such as oxalic acid washes, buffing, wet sanding and yes clay.

Thanks for the replies guys. I doubted that it was rust. But I'm not sure if I have a rail dust problem or not, being that the rust/bumps are only on the silver trim of my vehicle and not the actual paint. Is rail dust hard to detect on dark colors, being that I have a black 300c? I only notice this issue on the aluminum trim.

...which brings me to the same question on paint and rust. I do not have them on the C yet, but what the heck are those little rust specks in/under the paint anyway....they are common on een one year old cars sometimes. Are they something to worry about in general????
