If your club can make it down to Torrance California, we'd be happy to buy you all coffee and muffins and give you a day of detailing you'd never forget. If not, let me know and we'll come up with a new game plan.

Well, since our club members come from the SF Bay Area, San Jose Area, the whole Central San Joaquin Valley, and the Central Coast, coming to Torrance for a clinic would be pretty much an inconvenience.

Let's see if we can find a more central location up this way. I believe you could truly gather some new customers if you went out of your way to come up this way and hold a hands-on workshop.

i'm not familiar with the "clay bar" process so could you elaborate on that please or is what you typed the whole process? i understand wax and polish what do you mean by "auto detail supplies"? here's a pic of my 08' i got the wheels off ebay and they are new. would you suggest doing this on new wheels? all i've done so far is clean them with soap and water then windex. here's a pic so you can see what type of wheels i have. sorry i don't have a close up yet.

Spray down the rims with some Adam's All Purpose Cleaner and scrub them with a soft wheel brush, the inner wheel with a more aggressive brush.

Rinse them all down and begin the clay process:
Car Wax, Car Polish, Auto Detail Supplies - Clay Bar Part 1

After the clay and micro fiber towel wide down, I give them a treatment of Brilliant Spray Glaze.

Just remember to do ALL this while the rims are cool. If you can - clean your rims off the car, that way you can get into the lug area better since the studs aren't in the way and you have access to the wheel well to give it a cleaning also.

If you have any issues, give me a call at 909.342.4194. I'd be happy to walk you through it.

POST PIX AFTER, WE WANT TO SEE HOW IT TURNS OUT!

Ncinsguy,

Clay bar is one of the best things you can do to a car. It's the process of removing contaminants from the paint so it has it's maximum potential to shine and feel smooth.

This video really explains well the process so grab some popcorn and take some notes:

Car Wax, Car Polish, Auto Detail Supplies - Clay Bar Part 1
Car Wax, Car Polish, Auto Detail Supplies - Clay Bar Part 2

Rim cleaning:

Car Wax, Car Polish, Auto Detail Supplies - Cleaning Wheels & Tires

It really isn't intimidating at all and really it's kinda fun. Gives you a chance to literally get hands on with your entire car (including rims and glass.)

The Detail Spray is a must for this as it goes hand in hand with the clay bar. The surface should be cool to the touch and freshly washed. The clay bar will glide easiest the more the surface is lubricated with the detail spray so have a full bottle handy.

You'll want to do sections of your car to keep track of where you have already been, but simply feeling the paint will help guide you. Start with an area that is easy for you to work with, I usually work with an area just a few feet square. Spray the area will Detail spray and slowly rub in a circular motion the clay bar with it cupped in your hands (so you can maintain control of it. Clay bar that ends up on the ground is dangerous to use since you may have picked up rocks or metal fragments that could scratch your paint.) As you move the clay over your lubricated paint, you'll feel the little imperfections I mentioned. Eventually after a few strokes, they'll go away and you can move on. After you finish a section, wipe it down with a micro fiber towel and you'll instantly see the results. Use the back of your hand to feel the surface and you'll smile, I promise.

The same process can be applied to rims. I like to remove my rims first so I can get to the wheel wells after. Spray the wheels with Adam's All Purpose Cleaner; scrub with a soft wheel brush, spray down, then start the clay bar process on them. Finish up with Adam's Metal Polish 1 and 2 and seal with some Brilliant Spray Glaze.

Call me if you have any questions, (909) 342 4194 if you have any questions during the process, BE SURE TO POST PICTURES!!!!

I just wanted to mention, those two videos are part of the excellent DVD you get when you order their kits. There's a lot of very useful information and some things I wasn't aware of, like washing the wheels first and using detail spray when drying.

How do I care for my new car?

People often believe that new cars need no or very little care. Not true! When vehicles leave the factory, they sit in dirt parking lots, they are transported by trains, trucks, or ships, and then they are subjected to harsh washing conditions at dealerships. This is how I spruce up a new vehicle:
  • Clean the tires with concentrated Simple Green and scrub off the existing greasy, oily tire dressing. Thoroughly wash and dry the vehicle.
  • Use Adam’s Detail Spray and a Clay Bar to remove rough surface spots and contaminants. Clay the paint, chrome, and glass. Leave Clay Bar and Detail Spray residue on the vehicle.
  • Rub Adam’s Vinyl, Rubber, & Tire (VRT) dressing on exterior rubber and plastic. Do the tires last.
  • Apply Adam’s Revive Polish directly over the Clay Bar and Detail Spray residue. Remove polish with a microfiber polishing towel. Follow with a fine coat of Butter Wax.
  • For interior detailing, rub VRT on the dashboard and door panels and use Adam’s Leather Conditioner every two weeks for the first two months that you own the vehicle. Leather is very dry in new vehicles, so be sure to moisturize seats and other areas frequently.
Maintain your vehicle’s shine by hand-washing and drying it regularly, and by using a mist of Adam’s Detail Spray on the paint and glass. You will have to reapply the water-based VRT after each wash.

Basically a fancy version of RainX from what I've heard.
