Just got new car, now what?

Just got the 300C a few days ago, and want to make sure we keep the car somewhat flawless. The jacks at the dealer already put some swirl marks in it, but not to bad. Questions:

1. Any easy way to get rid of the light swirl marks in the car? Maybe some good polishing wax? I hate to go to a clay bar and have to buy one.

2. I already ordered the "Grit Gaurd" for the 5 gallon buckets, but I still need three leather shamis, where do I get this? I have a checkers a few miles away, would they have everything I need?

3. Should I order the "waffle weave" microfiber towls from the "grit gaurd" website like I was going too? Or should I go to checkers? Would they have what I need? Its $22 buck online for 16"x24".

4. Am I missing anything? I want to make sure we keep her looking NICE.

Thanks for any help!

Welcome Dodgeman and what a great xmas present you have. On point one - go and make the dealer get the swirls out of it!

Congrats on the new beauty. Here's my suggestion: There are lots of good reputable polishes, waxes and cleaners for your choosing i.e. Adams, Maguire's etc. Choose one and buy yourself some basic supplies.

1. First wash and dry car. Get yourself a good microfiber towel or waffle towel to dry. Then get some clar and lube and clay the car. This will take off all the CRAP the dealer or others may have applied. Next wash and dry again. Then apply a compound/polish to your car. I typically apply with a random orbital buffer. These are really good for the novice because they do generate enough speed and heat to get rid of most swirl marks WITHOUT damaging the paint. YOu'll just have to choose what type of pad you want to apply with. I'd then finish off with a sealant as oppossed to a wax. They generally last up to 6 months even in warmer weather. Plan on spending most of the day getting this done but enjoy and take your time. If done right and with regular washes you'll only need to do this 2x a year. There are plenty of good topics and suggestions on washing/waxing techniques. Do a search and see what you can find. Good luck and take plenty of pics.

hey bud well heres how to give your paint a nice sheen anytime

1) wash with soap and hot water

2) dry with chamios

3) dry door jambs, trunk jambs, and under the hood with a clean towel

4) clay bar sections of your car at a time while drying off with chamios

5) apply swirl remover on your car and wipe with micro fiber towel or if you have a buffer use it

6) apply polish and wipe with micro fiber towel or buffer

7) apply finishing wax and remove from paint with microfiber or buffer

8) this is the time to apply tire shine and wipe down your rims with a microfiber towel

9) do your headlights and tails if your up for it

10) go out and drive your car and make everyone jealous

Thanks for the help guys, washed her and just got done waxing about an hour ago. Here is a picture of the hood (best I can at night).

I used all Maguires products:

1. One five gallon bucket, poured 4 oz Maguires wash into it, used a lamb wool mit and washed it lightly.

2. Got myself a 24"x24" Microfiber (not waffleweave, not as soft) and dried her off.

3. Took some Maguires "premium" (I don't know what the difference is from premium) car wax and waxes whole car (roof, bumpers, everything) let it sit for 1/2 hour (its humid takes a long time to dry) and took off with the microfiber towl.

4. Used "armor all" window wash (its what I had) and cleaned all the windows.

I'll try and snap a picture tomorrow of her in the sun. I am kind of affraid to use a clay bar due to that I don't know if I can hurt the car using it if I do it wrong.

Okay, and what exactly does it do? Sorry for all the questions, but just wondering!

Will this remove every scratch on the car? It only has swirl marks. And I saw "Mothers" brand clay bar and spray at Checkers, should I pick that up? I have to go back anyways tomorrow.
Happy christmas also everyone.
