Reminder of Wheelskins group buy

Just a reminder that I am offering the absolute best price to 300C Forum members for the excellent Wheelskin Steering wheel cover. Genuine American leather made in the USA. Not your typical spiral wrapped rubber cover, but real leather of the same quality that comes on your new 300 or other vehicle.

Cover ANY wheel, no matter the size (even semi's or go-karts).

Check it out in the Sponsor Forum pages:

Group buy, Wheelskins Steering Wheel Covers

I have one on my personal 300C to cover that shiny plastic top portion. If you are like me and not a fan of that look then check out a Wheelskin. I have a picture of mine on the forum and my web site.

Questions are welcome and custom orders are our specialty.

clean-repair Wheelskin

Gary,

Like any leather product, repeated use can eventually lead to the dye and smooth surface wearing off. When a Wheelskin or your original wheel cover gets a "suede" like surface, it is beyond repair.

Wheelskins recommends using just plain water to clean their leather, although I have used Lexol leather cleaner and conditioner with very good results for years. I am doing a test now on a couple of my cars to see if water is better than Lexol or other leather products.

As with any leather, dirt is the enemy, so try to wipe down leather or use a quality cleaner and conditioner (I prefer two-part products instead of all in one versions) on a regular basis. Even for people that wash hands constantly, your hands are still a great source of oils and dirt.

There are companies that sell exact match leather dyes but these are usually quite expensive ($30 or more a small can) and require quite a bit of preparation and time to order and apply. It is worth it for an older full leather interior that can be saved (and I have seem some miracles done with these dyes) where replacement will run thousands, but when you can replace a Wheelskin completely for around $30 then trying to fix one just isn't worth it.

I have tried repairing a leather wheel once, when I contacted a company that visits used car dealers to fix interior problems. They dye the leather, and spray with a coating. But within a week, my hand was turning the color of the leather and the suede-like feel returned. These types of "repairs" are intended to last just long enough to get the car sold. So I don't recommend searching out these companies anymore.
