Not all MF created equal

Just wanted to post this mainly for the people NOT using Micro fiber towels. In my business I can't afford to have problems with low quality products. To date I have tested MF from over 50 suppliers, each one claiming to have the best material around. When ever a great product is introduced into the market, someone somewhere is going to find a way to make it cheaper. The end result is the consumer looses and it gives the product a bad name. The MF fiber I carry is the best I have tested to date, some I have tested don't even last 20 washes before the mateiral starts to fray. I have even heard of some companies using low grade "imatation" MF and selling it as the real thing, this material will harm your finish. Bottom line, buy from someone you trust and will stand behind the product. Anyone that has bought MF from me has gotten a Tech data sheet on them. If you have not used MF, it is the single best step toward keeping your finish show car ready. . send me a PM if you need more info. Gary

Do you have a website? I have some I buy from a place I like. They're probably cheapies, but they seem good (made in Korea, blue, one side is like a terry cloth except not made out of cotton the other side is like a typical microfiber).

glad I read this post.
In my neighborhood, MF doesn't mean micro fiber.

fldx...there's no way you except his opinion of them to be good is there? I mean, granted the ones I use are made in Korea, but that's only because the guy I buy them from I know to be A-class. I'll probably buy some of Gary's to try next time I need stuff. I just wish he had pictures of the products on his website.

I won't judge a towel without either seeing or knowing who the manufacturer is. The problem is imitation MF is all over the place. Marlin is on the right track because Korea has better quality than say China. Although I have seen cheap MF from both places. I might take a trip to WalMart this weekend and look at them myself. Gary

I will...it's from Walmart. What do they sell that's good? Well, I suppose they could be carrying the "Detailer's Choice" brand stuff that pep boys and autozone and advanced autoparts carry. That stuff isn't too bad (their "fender" brush is good for cleaning the lower body if your car has an unpainted lower body, and their red shop towels are good for wiping the grease off your hands)

marlinspike....granted you usually get what you pay for but every once and a while you come upon a diamond in the rough. I had never heard of MF until I joined the forum. A friend mentioned he had seen MF towels at the WM so I tried them. Also purchased some from either AZ or AA and didn't notice any difference. I'll go with Gary's opinion. If he recommends his i'll get some. Have a great day!

Fldx681, how do they work for you? I also use towels from a chain store. I am so happy with them I refuse to buy towels from specialty sources....while I'm pretty sure they would be at least as good as the cheap ones I buy, look at the price: we are not talking about a marginal premium, we are talking about towels that cost several times more....when I look at the price combined with my complete satisfaction with the cheapies, I just can't make the jump.....these comments come from an individual who routinely pays a premium on just about any product if I expect to notice an advantage corresponding to the increase in cost.

Frank, what happens with cheap MF is called "micro maring". The material and design of the fibers will introduce micro maring to your finish. The other factor is the amount of fibers per square inch. One way to see a difference between the cheapies and premium is to take both of them and get them soaking wet, wring them out and hold each up to the light, the cheap ones you will see daylight show through quite easily. The better ones will block out the light because of the denisty of the fiber. The one thing you can't see right away is how the micro maring effects your finish. By no means am I promoting or suggesting my towels. I can only state I have gone through many suppliers before finding the quality that meets my high standards. I stand behind that with my reputation as I do all my products. I'm also willing to give one away free if you buy 5 regular size so you can see the difference. Gary
