Emissions with Predator, Long tubes, exhaust, intake
I just got a lovely letter from the WI DMV today stating that my new car which I just picked up barely a week ago is due for an immediate emissions inspection.
it's an '06 with:
Predator (93 CAI performance tune)
Kooks Long tube headers
Kooks catted midpipes/exhaust
Mopar intake
searching on the forums I am finding mixed signals. some say the O2 sensors are still fully functional with the predator and other people are saying they have theirs turned off. Using my predator and going into the settings menu i see a * symbol next to O2 config displayed as such: *O2 Config but when i go in that submenu, it just says on, off. neither one has an * symbol next to it. how the heck do i know if mine are on or off?
basically what i would like to know is if this car will pass emissions as is in regards to the O2 sensors. i know there is a possibility of other items failing, but i know O2 sensors being turned off or disabled or faulty is a no crap automatic failure, so thats my first item i would like to tackle. Thanks for any help.

Reason: bad speeeeeling.... lol
Hmmmm. Not sure why you don't have a "*" to select. Is there anything to click on that then asks you if you want to load that parameter of the tune?
And regardless, if they are off and you turn them on, and they then throw a code, aren't you SOL without swapping the exhaust out? I wonder what type of test they do there. I've seen some that just hook up to the rear pipes. If that's the case, one possible option is to make sure your O2's are on (however you can figure that out so you don't fail that part) and that add some anti-foulers to the rear O2 sensors. My high flow cats were throwing codes until I did this, and then never have had a code since. But fortunately for me, I don't have to test in OH.
Had to do emissions this year in mine for the first time. Was a little surprised when they just plugged into the OBD plug, stepped on the gas, scanned the computer and said "You passed". I have the 91 CAI tune installed and had no issues. Honestly I think their looking for codes. No codes, I'm pretty sure you'll pass. I wouldn't worry about it.
Well, I've put about 500 miles or more on the car with no codes as it is, so I'm not worried about the codes, I'm just worried the o2 sensors MAY not even be turned on possibly, and if that's the case it would be a failure.
I had to get a different vehicle tested and all they did with that one was plug it in and let their computer run a check, there was no visual or physical inspection or sniff test. Granted, that was on a bone stock Nissan so that really isn't a proper comparison.
Can anyone help me determine whether or not these o2 sensors are turned on or not? Lol
You'd have to call DS and see if they can tell you how to determine that based on what your Predator is reading when you plug it in.
One other test would be go to the menu for the sensors, select that setting and hit Enter once. Update the tune and then drive the car. If you get a CEL, read it. I suspect you'll get an O2 fault message. Clear the code, go back to the tune, modify it back to where it was and go from there.
I can only talk from my own experiences but here in ga if its newer than a 96 they only hook up to obd. If you are worried about the rear o2 sensors you can always use a spacer or whatever its called and move that sensor out of the way.

so from Mike @ DS he said the default setting for the *o2 config is "on" and I do not have a CMR tune at all, just the "canned" tune, so they are on. No CEL's and no codes, so based on that, i would venture that this means that my car would at least pass the electronics part of the test.

You can't reset in parking lot...readiness monitors will not be on...i have the same codes with my high flow cats with the o2 mod....I'm going to add steel wool to sees if that fixes it
