The car will be written off if the insurance company deems the cost of repair to exceed the market value (as determined by them - not you). I once had a car written off when there was hardly any visible damage; most of the damage having been suffered by the suspension. I don't know if you have a "private" licence plate, but unless you transfer it before the car is declared a write-off, you may have to re-apply for it later.

Take your satnav out and camera's before it goes in? just incase it doesnt come back, and any other extra's you have put on that can be easy to take off.

Nothing yet..... the car was taken away on Monday to either be repaired or written off.
I'v been give a BMW 328i to drive round for at least the next 3 weeks.
From what i've been told the other drives insurer has 15 working day to respond to the claim, so i can only sit and wait.
In the meantime the other driver who i was shunted into has asked if i'll be the witness and her insurance company has said they will claim directly off the guy who hit me, and not make a partial claim against me.
I couldn't work on Monday as i'd no car to drive and the hire car only arrived mid-afternoon, so most of the day was spent filling in paperwork for my insurers 'accident claim management team' as they call themselves
I also handed over a CD of the shunt and talked to my solicitor who told that the other insurance company has an obligation to make sure i'm back to the same standard (car wise) before the shunt.
I can only wait and see

Its a waiting game, hopefully everything will be sorted in your favour

Really cool that you had video footage, nobody can dispute the evidence. I'll be getting the cameras installed before Christmas. My colleagues at work also want the cameras after seeing your live footage

Keep us updated on events

Some good news at last..... my car is not going to be written off
I had a phone call today to let me know how my claim is progressing and its now down to the other parties insurers to agree to the cost of the repairs.
I'd convinced myself that the car was a write off and had spent the last week or so looking on E-Bay and Auto-Trader and any other car related web sites to see what 300C were on offer and also wondering how much i might be offered for the car
Don't know when i'll get my car back, but at least i'll be getting it back in one piece
