Looks like your alternator output is intermittant. Have you also checked your accessory drive belt for slipping? Is your power steering OK on full lock and is your A/C working OK? The pipe on your last photo doesn't look right; there is clip missing and the joint is separating.

If you are able to retrieve fault codes, you may find: P065A - Powertrain - Generator Performance.

The pipes that are leaking is the two fuel pipes that the jubilee clips are known to come loose and leak fuel on to the rear of the alternator, they should have been checked during the service. I cannot see the shield fitted to the alternator either. Get it to the dealer and kick arse!

the last picture has been leaking, and i would renew the clip and push the hose on to the ridge and secure proper, then order a pair of hoses to change them

IIRC one is this-

the other -

I've just checked my pipes and they look very much the same. The clip is there, but hard to see because of the grime and the screw is hidden behind the pipe. So must order some new silicone hoses, as recommended by Paul.

one of the pipe are 9mm and one 8mm IIRC, one is a right pig to do the other easy, as i had to warm the 8mm to expand it a bit over the 9mm, as i 10mm hose wont fit.

I see that hoses come in 8mm and 9.5mm; can you remember which pipe is which? I wonder why they used two slightly different pipe sizes? Also, what size clips are recommended?

Hi Guys,

An update on this sorry its taken so long. Due to my car being my office and lots of working away I have had to use My mothers car and my weekend car (ironically 20 years old and on original alternator.) my mothers car is an 03 with 125k on the clock and has not let her down since new.....anyway

Sooo after getting several quotes all around £600 mark and finding out the RAC would not pick me up again for the same fault meaning driving more than 25 miles very risky I decided to try the Doncaster chrysler dealer which opened very recently.

After some tooing and frowing they got word from Chrysler that for good will they would Pay towards labour I would just pay for the part. Meaning total £601 bill.

As this made it the same as other places I went for it.

1) I got a genuine new part fitted and 2 years warrenty on it

2)I got my old alternator back which I intend to get repaired, other places wanted to keep the old one as they were fitting refurbed ones anyway and they got money back when sending it in, yet still were charging £400 for the part. I could get it from euro car parts for £190 with discount and sending the old one back.

So I picked my car up today after 18hrs labour. Yes you read that right 18 hours!!!! for an alternator. Apparently they hadn't done one before and had some problems.. you don't say!

Anyway glad to get my beast back. It really is a huge ball ache not having my car available.

Should have got UK Chrysler 300c to do the job.

he can do one in 1hr 20mins apparently.

Mercedes quote 1hr 40mins for the job.

took me around 10hrs (2 evenings in my garage)
never done one before but had a couple of hurdles to overcome...one being the cast stud on the tensioner to relieve the belt tension had broken off....the other being inadequate tools ie: no torx spanners, only sockets

It's a piece of cake to change....I can't see what all the fuss is about....we had a look at Dee's CRuD a couple of weeks ago for a MOT and change both top wishbones and while it was there we had a look to compare it with the MB alternator we changed a few weeks earlier and there's more room in the C and the only difference was the Aircon pipe attached on the C and from underneath we could see that it moves out of the way plenty enough to get the alt out from the top.....easy peasy
