13.8 is charging but it should be 14.2 no matter what on our cars(well that's what mine reads...)

I know charging is controlled by the EMU/ECU but is it via the front or rear PDC...or neither ?
the reason i ask is, i recently wired a 7 way by-pass to the rear PDC for towing and may possibly have disturbed some wiring/connection causing a poor joint.

today i pulled every fuse in both PDC's, checked with a multi meter, replaced them a few times to clean the blades.
pulled every relay and treated the same as fuses then swapped them around like for like.
started the car....14.4v.
a little later it dropped to 12v.
turned off then restarted immediately and 14.8v
went shopping then started it again and 12,6v...turned off straight away and restarted...14.5v again.
I suspect an ignition switch fault or dirty terminal/loose wire.
You need to get your alternator and connection from alternator to battery checked again. Charging is not controlled by ECM it is controlled by a regulator in the alternator.
Sorry even though you say alternator has been changed I think you will find you have a duff one.
Don't want to offend you but there is not the slightest possibility of it being the ignition switch. Take it back to whoever fitted the alternator and ask them to check it please.

thanks for the input.
just seem to much of a coincidence it works OK if i switch off and restart
fitted the new one myself and i aint taking it off again unless i really have to so i'll take it to the local alternator/starter specialists to be tested.
if it is a lemon I'll have no problem getting it exchanged...got it trade through my brother

Sorry I take it back I was wrong. The regulator is not in the Alternator in the 300C it is in the PCM and the charging rate varies as the ambient temperature changes as sensed by the sensor.

Jack
A little more info if you can Jack.
where is the sensor ?
is it a stand alone item or is it inbuilt into the PCM ?
I would have thought in colder weather (now) the charge rate would be higher than in summer.
just been out again (only 4 miles) and the voltage was again at 11.4v on startup and again crept up to 14.4v as the car, and obviously engine bay, warmed up.

Sorry yet again, for PCM read ECM. Thinking logically, I assume it will be the sensor that displays on the EVIC ie outside air temperature, not the air intake temperature sensor.
See attached drawing for pin connection details to ECM. I still think it is likely to be the Alternator though.
