egr location on crd

can anyone point out where the egr is for me please or if I could get a picture that would be even better I want to delete the egr this weekend

EGR valve is on LH side rear of engine under the plastic cover towards top of engine. (LH when viewed from drivers seat).

How do you intend to delete it ?
Are you going to fit a resistor to prevent EGR from opening or do you intend to attempt a delete from MAP.

They definitely run better when EGR remains shut. But if resistor is fitted in place of EGR you will get an error code thrown up and MIL light will come on.

I was going to try the resistor for now until I can get the cash together to get the map

I've never had the EGR valve off my engine. Is it possible to simply install a blocking plate over the egr port as was the case with many other engines?

As long as the EGR Valve is shut there is no need to blank it.

Will run much better with resistor fitted. Only problem will be is that the MIL light will come on after about 5 trips because the system will detect that there is low Gas flow/recirculation.

No I cant run with light on either because I would be concerned it would mask other problems.

Ive got resistor mod in place of EGR and my car runs much much better.
MIL light comes on after about 5 "Warm up from cold" so because I don't use my car much I just reset the Mil when it comes on and then wait for it to re-appear again (Dont know how practical this is for you, it depends how you use the car.
Ive found the error code, (P0401 EGR insufficient flow) that lights the Mil is activated during a warm up cycle when the Water Temp reaches about a quarter way up the temperature dial.

The egr is located on the inlet manifold next to the turbo on the nearside off the car. Its a large cylindrical object with a plug on the end.

This is the only photo I can find showing the EGR (as I sold my CRD), its the item at the top of the photo that has a green dot on it.


Kelvin, they cannot be removed and blanked but are defaulted to closed position when unplugged.
