Finally, someone who ( sort of...lol) agrees with me about modern diesels and their problems, old school diesels I have no problem with but since they made it "law" from 2004 on diesels to have all the sh1t on for emissions as they can't keep them clean any other way that's when they went down in my personal reliability of owning one but a lot of manufacturers made it " modern" from about the year 2000

We stuck a 1995 VW golf turbo Diesel engine in one of the lads at works 1970 Beetle about 4-5 years ago......no problems and it don't half shift,it had 100,000 plus on it when we fitted it,still going strong. Then, just last year we had to put a new engine in a 2007 BMW 3 series diesel cos it over detonated on cyl 4 and bent the con rod....that engine doesn't have a knock sensor fitted from manufacturers ??...
Would have rebuilt it but warranty company said it'd be cheaper to replace the engine

I have to agree you can't beat an old diesel for reliability, plus they'll run on pretty much any old thin oil

I wouldn't do that as its not worth the fine. If I had an old diesel it would be running on old veggie oil, you can use up to 2500ltr a year legally.
