got a strange Rattling, pinking(bit like when you drive over sticky tarmac) noise when I accelerate.( if anyone understands that?)
Down in the drivers foot well
After I start the car I get a strong diesel smell, cant find a leak anywhere?
both things seem to have started at the same time???
had the car serviced a week ago
also if anyone knows of good independent place for someone to look at it. Medway Area
If you are struggling to find your fault. You should find a local Mercedes indy. They seem to be all too familiar with these engines. Worked for me when my swirl motor failed. Just an idea
Hi sorry to here you have problems, take the engine cover off, and check the fuel pipe near the diesel filter ( in the middle of the front of the engine), then check the fuel pipes below the oil filter cap.
Rather than start a new thread I can relate to Leon's problems. For the second time in three months my fuel pipe has split and I now have diesel in all the wrong places including a puddle on the driveway. Luckily because the previous work is guaranteed it will be done for nothing but very concerned that the pipe should fail so quickly.

Do you think the replacement pipes were old stock?? sat on a shelves for years?
so checked and cleaned all fuel pipes, only could find oil i think from where garage changed oil last,
so no fuel leaks in engine bay
from using a cheap diesel meter, my nose. and smelling the exhaust gases from the back of the car and under?
have come to the conclusion.. really strong exhaust gases from under drivers side foot well, also i think this is where the rattling noise(not all the time) is coming from, didn't have time to have a look underneath, is there much there?
The exhaust runs down the left hand side of the gear box, their is a bracket securing it to the gearbox that could have come loose. Also check the sound proofing below the gear lever is not touching the propshaft.
