Do you idle to protect your turbocharger?

In my Chrysler 300C Diesel supplement brochure, it is recommended to idle 30 sec after engine start before driving and also between 1 to 5 minutes before tunring engine off (depending on the driving conditions/load). This is meant to help lubricate and respectively cool-down the turbocharger.

Do you respect this recommendation or are you just practical to save time/fuel? I try to observe it when I am not in a rush but not sure weather it makes a difference if I don't.
(A mechanic I have asked said it was more relevant for old generation turbo engines)

You just need to make sure that:

1. You don't drive like a bat out of hell within a few seconds of starting the engine and

2. Don't stop the engine immediately after coming to a halt following a high speed motorway run, or labouring up a steep incline.

I usually find that my slow speed manoeuvres prior and post journeys are sufficient.

You need to exercise caution and I don't think the age of the engine is relevant.

As above, I take it easy and try not to use the turbo too much before I'm turning it off, other than that I wouldn't worry too much, I've had petrol and diesel turbo cars for the past 12 years and never had a problem.

I always used to let my truck idle (GMC with Duramax) for a minute or so before shutting down just to be on the safe side.

I had a turbo timer but it was on my Skyline. I got it to work on a Clifford alarm system
