Ray, if they plug it in and read the code and suppose they delete it will it reappear since it'll sense the steering angle sensor hasn't been reset or will the action of deleting the code reset it?
On 2008 onwards models steering sensor can only be reset by the dealers magic machine ???
Alternatively, If you ignore the steering angle sensor code it will reset itself after a few trips. (Mine did anyway)

A similar experience here.
I have had the same problem twice. The first time was after I disconnected the battery to fit a towbar wiring kit. The battery was disonnected for two full days. I booked it in to a dealer for a look see. However, I didn't actually go because the fault cleared itself on the same day. When the car was serviced a couple of months later I asked them to check it. They told me that they had found and cleared a stored historical code for a faulty steering sensor but that it wasn't a problem as the sensor had reset itself.
The second time it happened was after I had a flat (4 volts IIRC) battery and swapped it for a new one. Again the ESC warning lamp came on but cleared itself within a few miles. No problems since.

No,it has to be reset,on my machine theres a pic of a steering wheel and degrees either side and you turn the wheel until zero shows then I press the activation button and do exactly what the screen tells me to do,not done a C yet but VW's you have to drive in a straight line while activating my machine for at least 10 metres

ok so my local garage's Snap On diagnostic tool doesn't have Chrysler on it. Last stitch attempt today by disconnecting the battery and removing Fuse 11 for a few hours otherwsie maybe a trip to the Stealer... unlesss... how many hundreds of Miles are you away Ray?
Stealer can't put it on the Starscan till next Friday and wonder if they'll just point at a sensor (and £££'s). RAC guy reckons it could be a software issue, i.e. after battery outage the PCM (or what ever it is) has had its software scrambled, either that or the steering angle sensor has popped?
Is it the case that it's only the diesel cars have had this problem.
I have disconnected the battery on my car a number of times and never had a problem other than the window switch reset. My radio preset stations don't even get lost, there must be some sort of backup battery / capacitor in the radio.

8-9 gallon of fuel.
Is your local stealer good with you / fair? and maybe a wasted trip.
Hmm.. do I trust them... nop. Affraid they'll just give me conflab about a sensor and as they're unlikely to allow me to witness the scan I'll only have there word for it.
Worried really as obviously if the warning lights are on I have no ABS, Traction or Stability on and with the colder weather....
