All your injectors where working at the same sort of rate and constantly adjusting themselves accordingly and when I revved it stationary they were all reading the same numbers but still adjusting themselves accordingly,I hope to have a better idea tomorrow with a stone cold engine but I also have a busy day tomorrow having a man off for the week but its funny how when you bury your foot into the carpet there's no noise,ah the noise, the noise to me when I'm driving it sounds like the beginning of wear on cam lobes...but it's not...cos it only does it between 1500 -2000 rpms,I can make it make the noise anytime I like between those rpms but after 2000 rpm it goes and it only makes the noise under slight Load. Tried opening a window whilst the noise was there but soon as you open the window you can't hear it,when you rev it stationary you can hear the injectors ticking quite loud ( engine cover off) but as soon as you shut off the injectors become quiet until tickover speed is reached then they tick again,it's almost like a slow knock sensor being not fast enough to compensate but why at that particular rev range....and no it's not been chipped, spoke to my MB mates and they say they've not come across this.I do have a friend with a Merc with the same engine coming round tomorrow so I might be able to compare sounds but his car has only covered 6000 miles,we'll see what tomorrow brings......I'm open to ideas boys......lol

I'll have a look tomorrow just to make sure but I'm sure the fuel pipes are secure but you never know.... Are the pipes metal, plastic or rubber coming up the bulkhead? I haven't noticed or looked

Like a small cam knock that's in the distance and only at 1500-2000 rpms under slight load flat out and there's no noise, TBH doesn't sound like pipes knocking. I need someone sitting in the engine bay whilst I'm driving to listen for the noise but I can't find anyone idiotic enough to do it..... lol

Definitely no lemon and I wasn't aware that deafness could be spasmodic. However, I will put this to the test the next time SWMBO takes me shopping and I will try removing the ear plugs I use to kill the infuriating canned racket that masquerades as music. And before you ask, I hadn't forgotten to remove them before driving! Maybe the CRD could benefit from an artificial engine noise generator, like those being suggested for electric vehicles? Going by the antics of pedestrians and cyclists who cross my path, it would appear that I'm not the only one who can't hear the engine.

How about a recorder with a remote mic? Or use a smartphone if you can safely secure it.

there been alot on here about noises(clatter on crd,s) to the point that front main bearing has been changed but noise still there but cured by isolating pipes on bulkhead seemingly a clip breaks noise amplified on bulkhead more apparent inside car.
