I remember the one your talking about

This was the work they done on his to no avail http://www.wkjeeps.com/misc/LX/TSB_3...0900108_LE.pdf

I don't think it will be the main bearing problem but could be worth trying the belt removal, it says 2006-2007 cars.

Its not main bearing noise and to me its no louder with a stone cold engine,It's been doing this for a couple of years if I heard right so if it was a bearing it would have failed by now

I complained of a noiser than normal engine to my dealer and they I insisted the injectors needed cleaning so they charged me for that. I think it's a scam since I noticed no improvement. To me the noise reminds me of an exhaust leak, but I don't see any signs of an exhaust leak. I checked for an injector leak but I didn't see anything.

Ive had my 300c crd for 5 months and I'm very fussy about noises in cars and paranoid lol
After driving my car for about a month i thought to myself that the engine was a bit tappety, luckily for me my father in law has same car and after listening to his it sounds the same!
I had my engine cover off when i first bought my car to check for the new turbo seal which it had and replaced the cover and after then i noticed inside the cabin the tick tick when the fan and radio was off and it was really getting on my nerves so drove around with the radio up and fan on.
Yesterday i took the engine cover off and noticed that one of the grommets on the cover wasnt sitting right so i took it out and readjusted it, the tick inside the cabin is a lot quieter now although you can still slightly hear it but its definitely a characteristic of the crd lump.
Ive also noticed that the ticking is louder on the passenger side wheel rather than the drivers side.

cplunan, do you notice it is louder during the winter months? If you do a google search on om642 problems you will see a lot of the Mercedes owners notice this noise too, some have fixed it with replacement injectors, some have not. I have had mine looked at now and am happy that my engine is not about to suddenly give up lol.

Suzieque, was your noise a ticking under load, heard loudest going up an incline at about 1500rpm? How did the dealer clean your injects? surely they would need to strip down and check spray patterns etc to properly diagnose a dirty injector?

All the cars i have had seem to get louder on startup in the winter for some reason.
I think the main problem with the diesel v6 is we expect them to be super quiet,
I came from a 520d bmw and sounded like a tractor so driving the 300c at first was really silent.
Best thing to do is to take a high quality video clip of your engine and post it and we can all compare to see if there is any difference in sound or abnormal noises.

I noticed my noise at idle. Honestly, I don't know how (or if) they cleaned the injectors. I should've asked for more details at the time, but they were so sure that would fix it for me.

I did some research, after the fact, because I had suspected a leaky injector, turns out that you will see very distinct signs of a leaky injector with diesel fuel around the injector. I didn't see that on my engine.

I am very paranoid of a problem because these engines are so expensive to repair, I have a full warranty still so I want to catch any problems before my warranty is up.
