CRD brake pad advice

looking for brake pads ( maybe disk ) advice for CRD ,

i would prefer low dust AND low price but hey beggars can't be choosers .

brakes making that low grinding sound first braking coming out of driveway but it disappears for the rest of the day . so pads or / and disks may be needed soon , looking for recommendations on both .

Just looking for good value / performance ( aren't we all ) , does low dust REALLY make that much difference ????.

Thanks in advance guys

That noise you hear 1st thing is normal, mine does it especially if its damp and I haven't used the car for a day or so, you can see the thickness of the pads through the spokes of the wheels but the best way is to take them out and gauge it from there. All the discs and pads we've changed we've used ADL parts, pretty good on price and good quality don't buy APEC pads they're cr@p

If you want low dust you'll have to go for EBC Redstuff's but don't fit them to badly worn discs as they will take ages to bed in properly before they stop squealing under light braking.

I fitted new redstuff pads and discs a few weeks before I sold the CRD and having now traded up to the SRT8 I can honestly say that my CRD's brakes felt much better on normal driving than the SRT8 I have now.

For low dust, definitely the reds the one to go for if you can or alternatively if you go with stock pads, as mentioned above ADL Blue print is very good

agree about the red stuff and using them with older discs. for some reason there are all sorts of issues or can be. i had a squeeling nightmare.

i ended up in the end with new discs and pads all round. what was really odd was i ended up with a set of EBC discs and it didnt matter what we did we couldnt get rid of the squeel. ended up changing them back to SRT ones and all was fine after that with the red stuff pads. it didnt make much sense and EBC had no idea what was up.

braking feels more positive and smoother over the range and lower dust of course. you do sometimes get an odd squeel when cold on reverse.

When installing EBC pads, this tip will help stop the squeal if done with care

(a) Apply copper grease to the back of brake pad,
(b) but also most importantly apply to the top and bottom ends of the pad, see photo for illustration.
(c) Blast the callipers and disc with brake cleaning fluid before installation.
(d) After a weeks worth of driving, give another blast of spray with brake cleaning fluid to remove any loose dust. Dust will look pink in colour, its the residue or remains of the course material applied during manufacturing process to the contact surface of the pad designed to aid with initial bedding process. EBC is notoriously known for that, so blast away as much of that dust as possible and give the wheels a wash too. You won't need to do (d), to stock pads though

All the advice I have read about brakes has advised against copper grease anywhere near them, and recommended silicon grease... I know a lot of hassles I had in the days of Opel Mantas and those hateful early sliding caliper designs were exacerbated by the tendency of garages to try and solve it with yet more copper grease.

Silicon grease to the brake boots and pins.

Copper grease to the back of the pads and the tips.
