I don't know of any real restriction with the air box as such, besides its forced induction so the largest restriction is the intercooler on the pressure side of the intake system. I would be very careful where you locate a cold inlet to the filter. If any large gulp of water can go up it (from a puddle or flood) you can kiss goodbye to your engine in a split second.

Fingers crossed you have it protected enough from direct water. You'll be amazed how many engines have been destroyed just by driving to fast through large puddles. A few years ago when I was running a hire companies workshop we had 14 cars/vans recovered in one day and all of them needed new engines because water had been sucked in the intakes.

My SRT8 had a new engine fitted in it 2 or so years ago because one of the previous owners drove it through water.

There is a baffle type setup underneath the filter box. The intake hole is quite small and the baffle is quite big. Two options are either 1) do as you have done or 2) to remove the baffle and install a performance panel filter in the box. There are some pictures of the baffle on the forum here. I believe the baffle is purely to reduce noise from the intake... we want noise
