CAI is what it says it must draw cold air so it to have air from OUTSIDE the engine bay. has to have ducting supplying fresh air or no real gain apart from noise.

the same opinion with my KN filter; can't fell any real gain In my diesel engine; use to assemble one in an 150hp Yamaha Vmax and definitely we could tell the difference; I’m pretty sure, KN are very reliable anyway.

IMHO, I don't think a CAI on a CRD is really going to generate any noticeable power increase. The only benefit if you really want it is going to be the noise. Any cold air going down the intake will be heated by the turbo and pressure and then cooled again by the intercooler. The best thing to do if you want more power is replace the tiny stock intercooler with a decent one and remap the car.

bigger intercooler and remap is the way forward, but I had the BMC filter and removed the baffle. The turbo chatter sounds sweet, but I am told is not good for the turbo. From a standstill a quick take off and left off the gas just as the car is about to change gear at a decent rev was the best way I got the turbo chatter noise

Bit low down that i'd avoid deep puddles then. It doesn't take much water to do terminal damage Even if you don't drive through deep puddles even someone chucking water up from a deep puddle on the other side of the road at you would be enough and could get sucked in with it that low and exposed. I've seen it happen we had an Astra in a few years ago with a "modified" intake they had come to a flood and stopped without going in to it and a car coming the other way through it chucked a bow wave towards them . You know the result. Just trying to save you from a catastrophe
