What brand of filter have you gone for? I too, am thinking of either upgrading to a better panel filter or cone filter. IIRC the noise is the turbo spinning backwards on throttle release? But why would this happen by installing an open filter? I don't think that is what you are hearing, the car probably has always made that noise but an open filter has amplified the sound. Someone will be along to correct me soon

My car makes a noise on throttle release like some laughing children.....! Only does it occasionally and I have never been able to make it happen on purpose.
I run a BMC filter in the std housing btw

I put a K&N panel filter in at last service. Sounds the same, runs the same.

colder air is denser contains more oxygen hence more compression bigger bang equals more power. Have you never noticed your car goes better on a frosty or misty day.

i understand how they work, but how can the crd have colder air in the engine bay then draw from a cold area under the front wing?

If its a frost morning the temperature in the engine bay will be warmer than under wing temp??
