This is my first posting on this forum, just having put a deposit down on a 3.0 2007 CRD with 56.000 miles and one owner. Looking forward to collecting it in a couple of weeks!
I have been reading about this famous 'oil catch can' in various places, but have not been able to establish how necessary it really is. I know they cost around £110.00 (with extension kit) and it should be fairly simple to install.
What is the general opinion?
Many thanks for any help out there, but please note that the car is a european model (i.e. Merc engine).
First off hi and welcome, and what part of the country are you?
As to the catch can, once you see how much these thing catch, and it save's it all going back into the intake, it would make your mind up for you.
As to the fitting it take's about an hour to fit. and if you have a cc it would save any problem with leaking onto the swirl motor, but to be fair that a simple resistor repair now.
Various opinons, most of all enjoy the car and let the mods begin.
Hello from Texas, I put a catch can on the 5.7 hemi, it does work! I highly recommend it. Mine needs to be cleaned out every oil change, but your schedule will depend on your driving style and amount of blowby in the engine.

Welcome! I agree. The catch can keeps oil from entering your throttle body and intake manifold. It is easy to fit. The benefits are a cleaner throttle body with fewer codes, faults and cleanings plus you reduce unburned hydrocarbons entering your air/fuel stream, mucking up the injectors, pistons and creating hot spots of hot carbon that cause pre-detonation.
