have said it before, i got stuck three times getting up the hill to my house without and i have made it everytime since i got the snow and ice tryes.
i take a run up and pray no one comes the other way but she does get there. i ended up in someones garden once without. it just slides sideways and loses traction.
i have been told the vredestein are really good. i got pirelli. it makes a difference on what car i am sure. they work to a point but are better for sure. downside is hopeless in the wet you need to be wide awake for aqua planing.

Re: Snow

Landed At Heathrow yesterday after 10 days in Doha. Caesars covered in about 7" snow. Cleared it and turned ignition. Waited for the glow plug light to go out (3 seconds) and she started immediately. No lumpy engine (like my Alfa in the past) and a perfect ride home. Went well on mways but a bit slidey in the close I live in. I've got 4 P0's. I was expecting better from Pirelli so when these wear out will look for something different.

Bridgestone Potenzas on mine lose all grip as soon as they hear snow forecast. The car struggled to go up what I would say was a 5 degree incline..

Has anyone tried Continental winter TS830s? I've fitted TS800s to the wife's Smart and it's great in the snow & ice. I'm thinking that maybe if I apply for the mortgage now, I'll be able to afford the Continentals this time next year! After bad experiences on the P7s in snow I leave the 300C on the drive as soon as there's a hint of the white stuff; the P7s may as well be made of wood for all the grip they provide in the cold!!

The best solution to tyres seems to me to fit a decent pair ...... to a different car and drive that in the snow

I can't get my 300 out of my road on P7s but my daughter's Punto is fine!

thats because the punto probably has skinny 165/70x14 tyres and has low horsepower, fat tyres are useless in the snow, the skinnier the better......unless you have a Land Rover.....lol

Re: Snow

I have found that 50kg of polymer in the boot works quite well. :-)

Have had a cracking couple of days driving, only one unexpected slide turning out of sainsburys in fareham, no snow just a bit wet and it let go big time for no apparent reason. Fortunately I don't trust the car at all so no big deal.

Just had to power it up a hill on packed snow/ice from a customers house in Lowford. entertaining but it got there.
