shocking mpg

I think my mpg counter is on the blink the car has been idle for 20mins or so and my EVIC is telling me I'm doing 5.1mpg and it's telling my I'm doing 19.9 MPG on a run. All I have had done is a .map. a k&n panel filter de cat dpf removed and cold air feed. It's only just started doing it last 2 days my fuel gauge is early moving even on hard acceleration

Can anyone offer any suggestions on fixing this please?

Ok i cant help with the evic, sometimes they will lie, but the check mpg brim the tank reset the counter then once you refill the can work out after you have re-brimmed it,

Do you still get the mil light on / check light?

once you have a true mpg , then you can see if there a problem, but all town driving and heavy right foot will be in the 20's

mine reads 2mpg when idling for 10 mins on cold mornings,I just reset it once I'm on the move.......you do reset it don't you.......yeah,course you do......lol

Remaps can sometimes mess up evic mpg readings. My CRD use to read 10mpg less than it was actually doing with the remap. Work it out manually before worrying about it.

ye mines reading wrong because i dont 65 miles and it used half of a quarter of a tank

Mine does the same when i'm idling or sat in heavy traffic. I always reset mine. Doing great guns on the petrol front atm though, getting an ave of 30mpg with almost daily travelling to Ashbourne, through country lanes too.

i took the grounds off cleaned them up now my evic is showing 27.6mpg

Hi Alex
Dont the 2006 yr cars use USA gallons not UK gallons...?
The metric settings might give you better readings!

a couple of tips;
The two second hand cars I've had - have both had dragging parking brakes, that ruined the MPG somewhat till sorted.
Badly adjusted tracking will also cause drag.
Will the car roll on a slope easily when its in neutral ?

it rolls easly and the tracking has not long been done but i do think my track rod ends are on there way out i will be changing them soon

i'm getting 24mpg in Malta .. and I know the EVIC is accurate (tested it by brimming the tank etc.) .. it's british MPG's too and not USA little gallons. I'd pin it down to lots of driving in traffic, shitty narrow roads, short commutes and the occasional heavy foot when I find enough road to actually allow it, facts of life living in this country.

I also notice that having the climate control on (set at 24 degrees, auto-lo, outside temperature about 11 degrees) increases the consumption by a couple of mpg's .. also there's a sound I can hear on the outside of something switching in and out of the engine idling, sort of like the aircon compressor sounds, but I don't think it's the aircon compressor
