I'll see how much the ESP is with my Halfrauds trade card. Any opinions on "vacuum through dipstick" vs oil pan drain, as I'll want to order a new plug with filters if the vacuum technique isn't good for the cars (I'm guessing this is what the dealers do though, and it's what I do with my SLK).

I think a lot of dealers do use the "sucking" method now.
I recently bought a "sucker" but havn't used it yet (Summer Job).
I'm sure its not the best method, but if the oil is reasonably clean rather than looking obviously the worse for wear and sludged up I think its a case of "I think I can get away with sucking it out".
If anyone is hanging onto thier cars for a long time though I am sure a proper drain would be best every few oil changes.

The first time I used it I also opened the sump plug to see it was getting all the oil out On the cars I have tried, including 300c's all the oil is removed and I only got a few drops from the sump plug. Oil and filter changes on the C are now very easy, just make sure the engine is warm before you start sucking

I'm keen on the sucking idea , all that fannying around with splash guards, worn and rounded hex sump plugs, and scurrying about underneath the car and you still make a oily mess on your nice mono-block driveway.
Mine's a laser one and was about £50. Works very well on the cars I've used it with - I could change oil on the MX5 in 10 minutes even allowing for scalding my wrist getting the filter out!

I used a Pela pump for the first time on my 300C last year. Works fine, very clean and easy and overcomes the problem of having 9 litres of oil gushing out of the sump. I've been using the pump for several years now on my Audi with no problems. As for the critics who raise the issue of sludge removal, if it can't be sucked out, its unlikely to flow through the sump hole either. If the engine is warmed up first, hopefully any sludge should be in suspension anyway. Another advantage of the pump is that you can suck out about 250ml from the filter housing, which wouldn't drain through the sump.

I like the good ol'fashion drain plug method, gives me an opportunity to inspect the underneath
You can reuse the drain plug a few times as long as the rubber has not been too squash, they did away with the cooper washers but you can get aftermarket magnetic sump plugs on ebay.
