diy servicing options

Ok so I'm looking at giving the car a service where do you buy your service items?
Looking at ebay for things like fuel air oil and pollen filters

Also whats peoples view on gm dexos 2 for oil change as it says its fully synthetic but doesn't actually say it on the bottle.

My bmw got mobil 1 esp for its changes but 9.5 litres of that stuff is expensive!

don't really like cheaper oils as I've had a couple of engines go on me in the past and its made me paranoid about oil now lol

£39 each 5Ltr for Mobile 1 ESP at Eurocarparts, will need 2 bottles but that is cheapest price I seen if you want Mobile1 ESP (5w30), thats with the 'WEBSAVER25' code, delivered

Grumpybob & Boro Al, know some oil they recommend, can't find the thread. It might be the GM oil?

just 'synthetic' isnt good enough in CRDs....it must hit Chrysler / Mercedes specs or you WILL kill the car ..... these motors need specific low ash oils, specifically MB 229.51

heres a list of all oils hitting the spec....just get it in the correct grade MB 229.51 - Low SPAsh multigrade service engine oils (Specification 229.51) - Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Operating Fluids

you can put the spec onto ebay & it'll pull up oils at around £25 for 5 litres (stuff no-one has ever heard of!)

this may help if you cant get cheaper....its Fuchs, so a well regarded brand http://www.theoilman.co.uk/shop/inde...d&productId=49

Thanks badgx for the info

Kaiser bill ive done a search for dexos 2 on here and ive found a few guys using the oil I'm talking about, it says on the bottle it meets the mb 229.51 spec.

It also says its fully synthetic but it doesnt clearly state that on the bottle !

The fuchs titan is whats in it just now as i had kwik fit do an oil and filter change a while back when i first bought the car and at that price on the link is quite tempting but not want to scrimp to much.

I guys my biggest question is, is it worth extra money for a brand name?

Same goes with the filters, is it better to pay that bit extra?

Not sure if you seen internal construction of an oil filter, but there are some dodgy brands out there on ebay.

Use OEM oil filter if you can or a very high quality after market oil filter like Blue Print or some other recommendable quality, like k&n. They won't be that expensive.

For oil, pay the extra if you cannot source an oil you can trust on specs, its your engine & you want the correct stuff in your pride & joy

Anything else like cabin filter, you can fiddle with plain or charcoal based. Charcoal based filter helps remove odour/smell

GM stands for General Motors ie the makers of Vauxhall, opel, Saab amongst others how big a brand name do you need? lol.
And GM Dexos 2 does meet the Merc 229.51 spec.
