European Bulb Kit

Hi all!
I will be driving to France a lot and it's a legal requirement to carry a set of spare bulbs. I've been searching hi and low but can't find a good match for my 2007 300c CRD.
Any ideas anyone?

I've bought some from eBay, and also Amazon. Make sure you search for the correct ones as per the owner's handbook, as most of them are not the usual UK/Euro fitting.

Don't forget to check for all the other things which are compulsory in France i.e. 2 breathalyzers, reflective jackets 1 each.

I thought you were kidding about the above but its true. Lol
Allthough it appears they dont prosecute for failure to carry the recognised breathalyser, its apparantly been postponed ?? Only £6 for 2 though so better being safe than sorry.
I did know about the warning triangle requirement but that was all.

Hi,

I took my SRT8 to France last year and put a kit together including spare headlamp bulbs and breathalysers. I've still got 2 x 9005/HB3 bulbs, 1 x D1S HID bulb (don't know if that's the same on a CRD) and a twin pack of breathalysers. I'm putting my car up for sale shortly so will have no need for them - £40 plus postage, PM me if you're interested.

What a stupid law..........have you ever tried changing headlamp bulbs on a Renault Modus?.....the whole front of the car has to come off and the job time is 3/4 hour,how on earth do the police expect you to change them at the side of the road,yes I know that ours are easy to change but a lot of cars aren't.....I could go on.......lol

I guess you have to have a spare for every exterior bulb type?

On the reflective jackets, I think they have to be inside the vehicle, so that you can put them on before stepping out of the car.

I agree it is stupid. I like somebody who says it as they think . Lol

I am a bit of an opinionated anarchist and stirrer and I would just take an assortment of bulbs of any sort I happened to have and take the risk. If I was stopped I am a "Stupid English Person" and as far as I would be aware I would have the right bulbs. How many people in this country has ever changed a bulb at the side of the road while on a journey ??

Not too sure on that one as every time I've hired a car in Italy the vest has been in the boot but I haven't been for a few years so that might have changed by now

Nope, it's dead true. Every occupant in the vehicle must have a yellow reflective readily to hand. If it's in the boot, you can get stuck on for it, which will be an instant fine, and that could be found out by way of being stopped by police, not necessarily because of an accident or breakdown.

Some items you should be carrying when Driving in France:

UK Driving License - Compulsory to carry this when driving in France - failure = on the spot fines!

Car registration documents - log book must be carried with you at all times. This can also incur an on the spot fine!

Headlamp Adaptors - UK vehicles are designed for driving on the left hand side of the road this will mean that
when driving in France you will dazzle oncoming drivers. Failure to adapt your headlamps will render the vehicle
UNFIT for the road.
invalidating your motor insurance and could result in a spot fine

GB Stickers - these are required by International Law to indicate Country of Registration

Warning Triangles - In France warning triangle must be placed 50 - 150 metres behind your vehicle to warn approaching traffic
if your vehicle breaks down or is involved in an accident. Hazard warning lights alone are not sufficient

Fluorescent Safety Vest - Obligatory to carry this in your vehicle while driving in France,
in fact it must be within reach so that if you have an accident or breakdown, you can get out of the car you were driving with it on,
so don't put it in the boot of your car!

Spare Bulbs - All car lamps, lenses and reflectors must be in working order at all times - failure to replace a broken bulb could result
in a spot fine so always carry spares for all your car lights

Spare Specs - Yes a spare pair of glasses are required if you have contact lenses and are going to be driving in France.

First Aid Kit - A First Aid kit must be carried in your vehicle at all times when driving in France.

Fire Extinguisher - If you fail to render assistance in the event of a fire
or take necessary precautions to prevent a fire from escalating is an offence
