Galvanised?

Can anyone tell me if the Euro version of the 300c is made of galvanised steel?

The UK brochure doesn't mention this, only a 7 year anti-perforation warranty, which is about average these days.

Like a few others have said on this forum, if it is reliable, I intend to look after & keep my 300c for quite a few years. In the past I have resorted to aftermarket anti-rust wax under the floor & in the sills & doors to keep a car corrosion free, but many new cars are galvanised, or have alloy hoods, doors etc.

The last thing I want is in 7 years time the rust to start big time!

I know I have seen a few ropey / rusty looking E-class Mercs at 7 or 8 years old, although I think I saw recently that Merc now offer a 30 year warranty on bodywork.

Hi Just

I'm sorry that I can't help you on the galvanised steel front ! However most of the panels seem to be made from plastic (but I may be wrong !)

Thanks for that MTC

Hope you are having a good time on the Isle of Wight & I trust Arnie has performed faultlessly on the journey.

I had a bit of a shock today, went to see Sandy, head of sales at the branch I am getting my 300c from, and he told me (and showed me) mine has arrived 6 weeks early!

He says that some mix up at the factory means that his April car has arrived before his March car, and mine is now here.

Anyway I will probably take the car a couple of weeks early, but the other problem is that the factory have fitted single CD players to the 2 cars delivered to the dealership this week, rather than the 6 CD MP3 players ordered. Thank goodness they now have the retro fit option or I would be one unhappy customer.

Anyway Sandy gave me a shot of the new Diesel demonstrator this afternooon..... "Superb", and "All I came to expect", is all I can say!

Cheers

that is fantastic news that your car has come so early - mine came a week early and I was over the moon. When I placed my order I wanted walnut and it failed to appear, but I wasn't going to wait x? weeks for a replacement.

As for this weekends drive, yep, absolutely faultless. My brother in law (who is a great guy) has just got a brand new 5 Series Beemer and noone wanted to know about it (it makes me sound like a gloating pillock, but its nice for ME to have something to show off for once), all they wanted to know about was Arnie !! Sadly the weather conditions weren't up to much so the Isle ofWight never happened.

As for the journey itself 4 hours from the Lake District to t'other side Southampton at 36.2 mpg. I got out at the end as fresh as a daisy. This car is such a great long distance tourer - you're going to love it.

I'm thinking about the retro stacker fit myself, but I was a bit put off when Belmont suggested to me that it would be (I think) £560. If you don't mine me asking, what sort of money is your man Sandy suggesting.

MTC

p.s. I had a drive in BiL's brand new 520DSE, not a patch on Arnie in any department, still, he's happy with it.

p.p.s I think that it's incredible that I can take a 2 ton 3 lt car (nearly) the length of England and back on a single tank of diesel.

Hi MTC

Glad to hear you had a good run down South.

Well, I tell you what, if Chrysler arent prepared to put the 6 CD MP3 in to the car without altering my OTR price before I collect it, then I won't be happy!

As it was a factory option at £400, it is a factory mistake!

Anyway (sadly i know) I have my MP3 CDs ready already!

Hi Just

In my dealings with my dealer so far, I have nothing but good things to say about them. They have been very, very good (& with my wifes PT as well).

I feel that if you get the new stereo that incorporates the stacker put in for £400 you will have had a good deal. Please let me know how you get on.
(Alternatively, if you've already paid for the option, then naturally it should be put in for you.)

The problem with mine at the time was that you could not get a stand alone stacker, you had to get the Sat nav / stacker together.

MTC

p.s. I've gone through 2600 miles in Arnie now and I still haven't seen another 300C on the road.

Question dear CRD drivers: Can you recommend your Chrysler dealer... and if so which one.

My local dealer is Majestic in Poole... has anyone heard of them... if so good/bad comments please.

Did you all pay the full price of £25,750 or were there any discounts or incentives?

Look forward to your feedback, Hotrod

Mercedes has major problem with build quality the last 4 years, but the steel of the 300 is galvanised. That does not say a lot actually as I believe any car these days has that.

Hi Hotrod

I absolutely, unreservedly recommend E.Hartley at Ings in the Lake District (01539 822450 and ask for Robert Ure in sales) - they are very very good.
Sadly they are about 300 miles away from you.

I'm sorry but I don't know anything about Majestic, have you tried a google search ?

As for price, hmmmmmmmm. I ordered mine last June and I was very happy with the deal that I got from Hartleys in Jan this year when my car came. I suppose that when Chrysler are (seemingly) making the car to order only and running supply VERY tight and they can sel EVERY car that they make, getting a large discount on a 300C is going to be a lot harder than getting money off a Ford/Vauxhall - but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't ask.

Hi MTC

Just got my Reg No through , and been told that the 6 CD MP3 changers are on back order from Germany . They have assured me I will get one as soon as it comes into the country!

Oh well, I'll just have to listen to normal cds & radio like I do now for a few weeks more (hopefully).

Not long to go now!

Just
