Ahhh, Brother Murph. YOU got it all wrong. You'd have to say, "I'm hot to trot". Then, and ONLY then would the servicing take place. Servicing consists of the standard oil change complete with a manual adjustment of the rear end. After that, one would be saying, "I just got my oil changed and my rear end adjusted cuz I was hot to trot".

Hope this clarifies matters on your END.

ok Rambit I've got you now.

For further clarification I think that for the sake of safety if you're going to get your rear end serviced by a stranger, then it's probably a good idea to make sure that the stranger has his tool well covered and that you should make sure that the lube oils has no grit in it. Alledgedly.

You're wrong again Murph. You should always be properly introduced to your "technician" by your service writer proir to getting any work done. The technician must also be certified to do any rear end work. The service manager oversee's the procedure and will assist if requested. You should ensure only proper lublicants are used applicable to the type of rear end you have.

cheers Rambit for clarifying things for me again.

I have never had my rear end serviced by anyone and I am glad that yours has been seviced so regularly by a properly lubricated "technician".

I do however have a query for you - when you are getting one of your regular rear end servicings, is it normal for your service writer to insist that you keep shouting out "who's the Daddy" and that your "technician" tells you that "this is a great piece of tail. It'll look great on the 'Net".

Is the 'Net a DC approved diagnostic tool ?

Well Murph, my truck has 15,000 Km's on it and the rear end has to be serviced to put synthetic in it at 24,000 Km's just to keep things tight. Maybe you should check your own rear end (manually) to see if all's well. You're technician should be able to show you how to do this and be able to give you the guidance needed. He'll show you the proper tool that must be used.

I know where you come from, things are "different" let's say for lack of a better description, BUT over here we all know who our daddy's are. Most of us who are the daddy's are way too busy to even bother with crappy rear ends anyway.

Just before I forgot it I was kind of stunned... change oil every 5000 kilometers? There are weeks I make that much! I would have to change oil every 3 weeks! It's like being back in 1972...

15.000 is still not great for a diesel but it is better then every 5000 km

Update.... now the dealer called me to say the service is at 12.000 km, not 15.000 km. If they would make up there mind it would help a lot.

Hi Mathijs

What does your manual recommend ?

I know that you have asked a few manual related questions in the past and I would have hoped that the manual could help you.

As I said earlier in the thread, Arnie doesn't need to go in until 12500 miles (20000 km's).

Yes, it actually tells me what the steering wheel is etc. However anything more complex was lost on the translator who translated the manual into French. You would not even believe how the windshield wiper controls are explained. It took me and my wife two hours to figure out how the seta memory thing works because the steps in the manual were just plain wrong. Of course a UK manual is on order, but it has been that way for 3 months now.

On service it tells me 15.000 (so something else then the dealer), unless the car is driven in frost and on many short trips. How much frost, how many short trips and what the service interval would be in that case is not explained. So now we got 13.00 of my dealer, 15.000 of my manual and 20.000 of your manual. This is whacky.

Hi Mathijs

if you have access to a fax machine I'll copy some pages for you and send them over, if it helps you.
